ok, so b0se hides info like wattage, freq. range, etc.
people mention how incompletely a b0se setup reproduces sound ... because of their satellites and sub combo

my question is, is this in the same category as b0se?

Those will most likely sound better than the "Acoustimass" garbage. They are 2-way, so thats already a step up from Bose. I've talked to an engineer from Bose's car division, and he said that even they dont respect the people that work in the home division.

If you want Bose type speakers, yet actually having a good sound, take a look at RBH ct series, atlantic technologies, and Hsu ventriloquist.

I've had these http://www.jbl.com/home/products/product_detail.aspx?prod=MUSIC2&CheckProduct=Y as well as the Movies 2 center and surrounds for 10-12 years now and can't complain. I originally went in to buy the Bose crap but refused to do so withouth listening to other systems. I spent about 4 hours listening to every sat/sub combo and decided the JBLs were the best at the time. I didn't have the room for floor speakers then so I limited myself to those types of speakers. I took every genre of music with me for the test and only used MY discs that I was very familiar with to test them with. The Bose have muddy bass that is boosted in the mid to upper range of a sub so it sounds like it has alot of output but it doesn't go low at all and the highs are a bit shrill and there is absolutely no midrange to be found.

I have not heard the series that you linked but was pleased with the SCS 300.7 set that I heard at Best Buy and had found them online for less than $400.00 shipped, that was when I found this site and am now looking at a set of Ascend CBM-170 for the front soon with the rest to follow in a few months. I feel this will be a better sounding system than any of the JBL consumer stuff in the same price range.
