I have a Denon 1905. I came home one day to find it sitting with a blinking red ring around the standby button. My roommate tells me there was a flash and pop, followed by an electricish smell. I reset the processor which didn't solve the problem. Is there a guide to finding the bad part and replacing it. Or should I just head to a best buy or local repair// retailer.

A few moments after the receiver is turn on the red ring starts blinking instead of turning to a solid green.

Help.

Sounds like the output stage died...
You better sit down when quoted for repairs..
You might be better off chucking it and upgrading to a newer model with later features.

Just my $0.00... ;)

Bummer. Looks like I need to get a longer cord for my head phones.

Your roommate, eh? How loud was it when he saw this? If he can't hear you whispering, they may have cranked the snot out of it. Disconnect the speakers and turn it on- if it still flashes red, it's probably toast.

I don't know where you are but most larger cities have a good repair shop. The Denon site may have a list.

This is exactly what I thought. Roommate, eh? It wouldn't surprise me if this was the case. User negligence/"the dreaded roommate" that does not know how to deal with electronics.

IMO, it's less a matter of knowing.not knowing electronics than not caring because it's not their equipment. I have only had a few roommates and the last one left while I was at work. Fortunately, I didn't lose more than a small oscillating fan (I liked that fan, though). My stereo, guitars and amp and all kinds of other stuff was there. That's when I decided that I would never have another one. The previous roomies knew how to operate a stereo and one of them worked at the same stereo store. He was still a d*ck.
