For sound, I bought an Audioquest VDM-1 digital video cable which im running from my dvd/cd player to my receiver. now im trying to perfect sound on a budget mostly for music. is this the correct cable to maximize audio performance?

My set-up is as follows dvd player to tv with dvi(video signal) and fibre optic cable for(audio).AVR is now set in dvd in fibre optic. Then my cd player is set to coax but in coax1.Then my digital cable box is set up with video comp cables (green, blue, red cable) into AVR then another comp cable to tv and coax into AVR for sound and input set to coax 2.Point is you must label or direct you toys to proper setting.

I think your problem is because you used the hdmi cable from dvd to tv. hdmi had to be used back to your avr and thus the sound issue for cd just connect some rca cables(red&white plugs)from dvd to avr inputs on the back of your amp they to will be red and white then switch amp source to dvd and hopfully this will be it sound should improve for music?
ALL I CAN SAY ITS MOSTLY TRIAL AND ERROR IT HOW WE ALL LEARNED GOOD LUCK

Did some checking and the audioquest cable you are using may in fact work but you must assign the proper input on the AVR(amp) to the incoming signal from your dvd! ie: set it to dvd in coax or if you are going to using a fiber optic cable then tell AVR(amp) in fiber optic.:)

The Audioquest VDM-1 is the cable you want for digital audio. It should connect to the Digital Coax out on your DVD player and the Digital Coax in on your receiver.
