This type of post is ridiculous.

[Edit: Deleted and user banned. The last "review" was flagrant plagiarism and the poster is actually a banned user under a new name. - Admin]

I don't think old movies have any need to be review nor do they need an "Official Thread."

Maybe you could start a web page to post all your reviews of old movies.

I never heard of "Crimson Tide." Then malvado called it an "old movie" so I'm thinking maybe 30s or 40s.

1995? That's considered old today?

First of all, this is a BRAND NEW RELEASE that came out this past TUESDAY and was HIGHLY ANTICIPATED -- not the FILM, this new DVD VERSION, so it DOES INDEED WARRANT a review. Beyond that, your comments are irrelevant, and you know it.

I like Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman but this movie was a pile of crap. The movie didn't even come close to a good portrayal of the "Silent Service".

While everyone is entitled to their opinion, this one above is simply ridiculous; this film is absolutely far from a "pile of crap;" in fact, I would go as far to say it's one of the best in the Bruckheimer/Simpson stable of unrealistic scenario summer blockbusters. When you say it's not an accurate portrayal of the "Silent Service," what exactly do you mean?

Not a review that basically gives the entire plot though. All I want to know about with a rerelease DVD is a quick synopsis and whether or not the new transfer is better than the original release, which according to this review it is. I might pick it up because I never bothered to buy the original release; I though it looked like crap, so at least they made some improvements.

"Not a review that basically gives the entire plot though."

What does this mean? I stated that the TITLE of the film was irrelevant in terms of the fact that this NEW edition was released just THIS WEEK, and that's what warrants a review -- if you read DVD reviews all over the internet, you will see even titles of this vintage given a complete -- and I mean COMPLETE -- plot review like was done here, regardless of the fact that it has been done before because of the film's age. Look on Home Theater Forum.com and such; they go over the plots of films just as deeply for those that were re released on the DVD format in new editions. That's how a reviewer does it.

"All I want to know about with a rerelease DVD is a quick synopsis and whether or not the new transfer is better than the original release"

That's YOU, but official reviews give more than that.

"which according to this review it is."

Yes, it is, which I stated on and am passionate about because the video improvements are night and day on this transfer; thank you for taking the time to read the review, by the way. I hope it helped your buying decision.

"I might pick it up because I never bothered to buy the original release; I though it looked like crap, so at least they made some improvements."

The original release was one of Disney's WORST non anamorphic discs; pick this version up....except for the ridiculous added scenes, its well worth it. ;)

I've got to second this. Quick and to the point; ratings regarding Video, Sound, and Extras. I like the reviews on dvdmg.com, but Colin too give a summary of the whole movie. I usually skip right over that and go to the technical review.

That's okay, sir, but as you stated, there are in depth SUMMARIES of films and that's the way reviewers are told to do it -- I can attest to that personally. When I have written full-length reviews for DVD ETC. magazine, they specifically instructed me that the whole film must be overviewed and discussed before going into the technical specs of the video and audio. That's just the way it is; that's all I was trying to explain to that fellow....plots MUST be discussed; if at times, in depth. You can easily skip to the audio and video specs if you wish, but the plot is going to be there for official purposes.

Wow!!?? I guy writes a book on the new edition of Crimson Tide and not one person thanks him for his time and effort. Pretty rude if you ask me! That is something I just don't get.. Someone works hard to provide a free service and there is always someone there that has to knock it in some way. I don't see any of you writing reviews.

Thanks DTS Fanatic.

Actually, I've given a number of "mini" reviews (no in depth, multipage stuff), but you apparently didn't read any of them...:p

The Silent Service is the nickname given to America's submarine fleet and its operations.
