The Large Budget System!!!

I find towers completely unnecessary for surrounds. My setup will be used for less than 10% music, so I'm more concerned about HT performance, and towers would actually be detrimental in that aspect. You shouldn't be able to locate surrounds, hypothetically speaking, and if I had towers back there I would definitely know where the one closer to me was. Maybe if I was the only person living in my house, and I only had to worry about my sweet spot seating, towers would work, but I need seats from wall to wall.

Yeah, XLR cables... I am going to look around because outlaw's seem overpriced. I am so terrified of the horrible, horrible ground loop that I may cause (3 or 4 power outlets, 2 cable feeds, 1 antenna feed, sounds like a ground loop waiting to happen to me), the last thing I need is a 60hz hum just because I didn't use balanced cables.

Buying the proper cables sucks.

I must have been really tired or something, but last night I was actually thinking about making it a 7.1 system, and hanging a couple of speakers from my ceiling behind me. I must be crazy, but I'm still considering it. That would be about 1000 extra bucks though, I don't think it's gonna happen with the original purchase, but I'm definitely gonna do the wiring so it will be an optional upgrade in a year.

Are you planning on using the included mic to calibrate your system, or are you getting an spl meter? I'm probably just gonna try both, because I have never manually calibrated speakers before, so I'm unsure of my capabilities, but it looks pretty simple.

lol ya hidden costs : ( the biggest shock for me was the 125$ balanced cables i need to conect the pre to the amps. well i will be buying my setup in july, so you will have yours before me and can tell me anything you learned.

I definantly feal that you get alot more speaker for your buck when you go towers for surrounds.
Why are you spending that much on balanced cabling? Guitar Center/Musician's Friend sells the same thing for way less money. Heck, even Impact Acoustics has a great deal. I think Blue Jeans is great quality, but I think that's a bit steep for a short interconnect.

Just search around on the internet some more. Remember, the balanced cables you want are identical to the common XLR-terminated microphone cable. Before you buy, verify that you're getting a good shield, that is, NOT a spiral shield, and at least one braid shield with 90% coverage.

Why you don't want a spiral shield:

What makes the emotive amps better?? i looked at them and decided to go with the outlaw setup, which is also cheaper and comes with free shipping. The outlaw setup has a seperate 200 watt AMP FOR EACH CHANNEL. I wont even have to worry about the all channels driven thing, i will just have to worry about enjoying the very impressive 200 watt rms amps.
dannv,
The emotiva amp is a monoblock design with a seperate torridial transformer for each of the amp channels. This is why you can add and remove mono or stereo amps in any of the 7 slots. It is comparable to the outlaw solution and would require less cables and power cords and be easier and cheeper to add extra channels.

Sounds like you will have a great system.

The issue with the Emotiva is that it didn't quite hit its power spec, so the Outlaws are still offering more juice.
