14awg speaker cable from Home Depot? I don't think they carry anything thicker. Or order thicker cable online.

Stands or mounts for your speakers.

Room treatments.

Are you planning for HD material in the future?

If so, you will need HDMI switching wia a receiver or a separate switch system. I would make sure the LCD display is HDCP compliant and has HDMI or DVI otherwise it will quickly be outdated and not accept HD material.

Thats going to be a very impressive setup audio-wise. You certainly have my envy. Your pre/pro/speaker/sub setup is the total cost of my entire HT.

I agree $100 for a LCD in almost any condition is a steal that you should jump on.

BUT... in the longer term, if you have the space and the ability to light control, look at a projector system. I'm biased by my front projection 92" screen. I used to drool over 42" Plasmas. Now I turn my nose up at them. Again, a light-controlled room is a must.

Just my opinion - I think your audio system far outpaces your video. If its DVD-A and SACD listening is your primary use, then you're set. If you want a real HT experience you'll want something bigger in the video department.

Either way its going to be a damn fine system. Enjoy and don't forget to post pictures and your experience!

Agreed... real audio experts will say the room's response is just as, if not more important than the equipment you put into it.

Go check your room with with a simple "clap" testing at your listening location and listen for reverb or "flutter echo".

You can either allocate money or your personal time to this. With money you can but some nice off this shelf room treatements. With time (and skill and tools) you can build them yourself.

Also, I'd go ahead and allocate about $100 toward a Berhinger Feedback Destroyer Pro - people who say you can get good clean low frequency in an untreated room without some form of EQ are feeding you a line.

Best regards,

~Josh

I don't entirely agree. Ruler flat, not going to happen without an EQ, but my sub is surprisingly flat with no EQ at all in my room from 160Hz-16Hz, so I'd say get the sub and run response tests before getting the BFD. I was ready to buy mine too, but when I ran the numbers I found that I didn't really need it unless I wanted it even flatter. That wasn't the case with my previous sub, there was one big dip and one big peak back to back near the x-over point, and it was very audible.

Other than that, it sounds like a nice setup.

Good point. You may be lucky! But most of us arent. If your room has any two dimensions that match closely (width, depth, or height) you're likely screwed.

lol i guess im screwed, as for room treatments my budget is already maxed out so..... it will be a while. and i am actually going to be in an apartment for the 1st year i have this system before i move into my house. but then i will be able to do whatever i want. and what do you guys think of towers for rears instead of the qs8 surrounds?

Towers are nice if you have the space and budget... I certainly won't try to talk you out of it as direct radiating is better for multi-channel music such as DVD-A and SACD. But if HT is your primary app then the indirects like the QS8 would work fine. You could also save a few bucks by using a bookshelf for surrounds.

By the way, you can do room treatments on a reasonable budget if you are handy enough. If youre interested I could dig up some links.

Systems suggestions

I would also recommend the Axom QS8's for surrounds if it is feasable to use stands or mount them on the wall.

For the amplification, you should consider some of the following options:

Emotiva MPS-1 w/ five channels ($1,700)
You can add mono or stereo amps in the two remaining slots down the road.

Yamaha RX-V2600 receiver ($1k+)
This could be used as a pre-pro, but it is very capable of driving everything but the mains.

Emotiva UL pre-pro ($500)
Not out yet so you'd have to be willing to wait.

I would be interested in the links to DIY treatments. That "looks" like it will be a great sounding system...enjoy!

What makes the emotive amps better?? i looked at them and decided to go with the outlaw setup, which is also cheaper and comes with free shipping. The outlaw setup has a seperate 200 watt AMP FOR EACH CHANNEL. I wont even have to worry about the all channels driven thing, i will just have to worry about enjoying the very impressive 200 watt rms amps.

Lol, I am actually in the process of getting ready to buy the exact same audio setup. 5 mono blocks with the 990, same axiom speakers except I am probably going to go with QS8 or bookshelves for the rears.

My only question/concern is how to plug in all those monoblocks. I am keeping mine close to the preamp cuz XLR cables are more expensive than the speaker wire is... Have you asked outlaw about plugging all 5 into the same surge protector, or what are you planning to do?

Wouldn't dual subs help fix frequency response issues? I'm goin dual svs cylinders, hopefully that will alleviate some frequency problems.

Great deal on video, but it's kind of depressing to see such a stellar audio system backed by an average video system. At least at 100 bucks, if you get upgradeitis soon, it won't be that difficult to part with it.

Radioshack SPL Meter, Avia or DVE disk to help you calibrate your awesome setup.

Just out of curiosity, why are you using 5 2200 monoblocks instead of the 5 channel 7500 amp? It's be a little cheaper and you'd only need one power plug.

first off hansen this will be a truly awsome setup and we should keep in touch to compare qs8's with the towers. Where do u live? i will be moving to san antonio this summer. and second with the deals on the 2200's they are definantly cheaper than the 7500, you get buy 4 get 1 free 100$ of the 990 and free shipping.... hell ya! thats why I am not getting the 7500. Also i am planning on pluggin all the amps into 1 surge protector and the sub into a sepperate outlet. and last i wont upgrade the 32" i will just add a projector when budget allows.

I live in Minnesota, so demoing wouldn;t exactly be plausible :) but yes, comparing is definitely a good idea. Like I said, I don't know if Im goin with the quadpole or direct radiating yet... My HT has NO back wall, so I'm not sure if the QS8 will work or not, I still have to get some answers.

The deal on the 5 monos and the preamp is awesome. A true 200 wpc amp setup for around $1300, and a high quality preamp for about $900... I can deal with the power wire hassle for that price ;)

I might end up using 3 surge protectors or power conditioners... ugh. 1 for a sub on the left side, 1 for sub on the right side, 1 dedicated to amps, and all my other components will plug into sub surge protectors. Hidden costs can really build up.

Hopefully I'll start my purchasing within the next month, but the decision isn't entirely up to me :)

Lots of speaker and amp power...

Buy some area rugs and hang them on the wall as 'art.'

Really research room treatments while in your apartment, that way you're prepared when you move into your house.

Your audio rig will sound even better in a flat room.

And yeah, spend a little more on video next time;)

lol ya hidden costs : ( the biggest shock for me was the 125$ balanced cables i need to conect the pre to the amps. well i will be buying my setup in july, so you will have yours before me and can tell me anything you learned.

I definantly feal that you get alot more speaker for your buck when you go towers for surrounds.
