Seriously, I have no life.
excellent. :) I'll see it in 3D here at my local theater but I doubt I will be getting the 48P at this local screening.
The couple of theater listings I have seen for this movie showed all the different formats they offered. My local doesn't have Atmos so is not listed but we do have HFR 3D and one theater with XD(extreme digital, probably meaning higher than normal resolution. So, yours should list the different offerings.

There is enough content to make 3 movies. I saw it tonight and aside from a little bit of comic dwarf banter, there was not much dead air in the movie. Of course the movie company is greedy, but what movie company is NOT? The question, of course, is whether the story and characters are sustainable and can draw 3 movies worth of viewers. The character development in Hobbit, so far, is not as good as in LOTR, but, the action and FX are quite good, the story is worthwhile and my impression of the audience reaction is that they were sorry it was over after 3 hours, so there's a good chance they will come back for two more episodes.

I saw it in 3D with the high frame rate and have to admit that I'm not a big fan of 3D. Like all other 3D movies I have seen, I found the image sharpness and brightness to be somewhat less than what I expect in 2D, so I don't think seeing it in 3D is necessarily a requirement.
I saw it last night in 2D (24 fps) and agree with this review of the movie. I was sorry when it was over. There were a couple of elements that were taken directly from LOTR which removed the drama from a couple of scenes, but the story was engaging and interesting. Bilbo's character is fantastic and superbly acted. I can't wait for the next two.

I saw it in hfr. Best 3d ever IMO. A must see in hfr for anyone who like video and 3d

We watched it on Vudu last night. For some reason there was very little bass especially if you compare it to the other LOTRs. I actually got up, to make sure my sub was, on twice.

PQ seemed fine on a 65" display but overall we both found the movie to be a little boring.

I bought the blu ray and watched it in 2D last night with the family. I liked it a lot. I'm a big Tolkien fan and I generally have no problems with the changes that were made. That said, while I'm eagerly waiting for the next 2 parts, I'm skeptical about filming this in 3 parts. The underlying story is a slender one and Jackson had to work hard to puff it up to 3 parts each weighing in at close to 3 hours. Also I disliked Martin Freeman as Bilbo. He plays the role as if he were the pizza delivery guy around the corner. He's so flat in the role that you'd think he was simply going for a stroll around the block with his dog.

Yes, but I was not really convinced that the high frame rate made any obvious difference. IMO, all 3D movies lose some definition and brightness due to the filtering of the glasses, which, after all, have to restrict the individual eye to half of what's on the screen (which doesn't appear to be twice as bright when viewed without glasses). If there was a benefit to the 48 FPS, it only partly offset the loss of image quality due to 3D, but I can't say that I saw anything that I could attribute to the faster frame rate. It would be interesting to be able to see both side by side, in double blind fashion, to see how many people can notice a difference.

I watched this on BluRay last night. Although the film doesn't follow the book very closely at all, it was still very entertaining. The cinematography is incredible, the picture quality was amazing and teh soundtrack was as good as any of the previous LOTR films.
