I haven't read a whole lot of good about this movie, but still going to see it tomorrow night. I'm hoping it isn't as bad as some of M. Night's last few.

I think this movie will end up being either really good or really bad. From the previews it does look interesting enough, but so did "The Mist", and I thought it was atrocious. Let us know what your thoughts are - I'll probably see it at some point myself, unless I hear nothing but bad reviews. :)

The Mist didn't look good to me. M.Night is a little inconsistent with his films too and his last few didn't really have the same appeal as the first few IMO. I liked Lady in the Water, which looked good in the trailers, but if I had gone to see it in the theater, I would likely have been just as disappointed as I was with The Village. Both good, not great, mainly due to solid performances not great stories. It looks like he may have tried to step it up a bit, and some of the scenes in the trailer are just plain unnerving...so I want to see it :eek:

I was going to go see "Strangers" but just may see this one instead. It does look better than "Strangers" and as John said it is his 1st R-rated movie. Of course, this all depends if I get off of work early too.

Cheers,

Phil

His first R rating...is that good or bad...hopefully I will find out soon. Except for Lady in the Water, I at least liked his other movies. They're not great but they do feature Twilight Zone like weirdness.

Unfortunately, the guy's that review movies on the morning show I listen to, just COMPLETELY SLAMMED this movie.

They said it totally sucked, and wondered how the movie even got made. I won't ruin it for you that are going to see it, but they plot as they explained it sounded pretty stupid. They said it was totally boring and all the deaths in the movie are in the trailer. They said the movie should have been called, "Nothing's Happening".

I think I'll wait to rent this one.

I've not read a single review in its favor. I usually don't let reviews control my decision to see a movie, but in this case I think I will. USA Today gave it 1.5 stars out of 4, but gave the Hulk 2.5. And I thought the Hulk was going to be horrible...

Here's some reviews:

From what I gather from most of the reviews I've read, I'm either not sure if the person has seen the film or if they just think it's cool to hate Shyamalan.

I've read reviews making fun of his name, reviews saying that he finally isn't in one of his films (but HE IS in it), reviews that say they're embarrassed to admit they like the film....I mean if it doesn't point to ragging on Shyamalan as being trendy rather than an honest review I don't know what does?

I went an saw it last night. it starts out pretty good but then it just turns into a bit of a comedy. most of the death scenes are in the trailers. I was surprised alot of people clapped at the end of the movie.

I wasn't. People have no taste these days. I do agree that the movie was good for some laughs.

Based on Friday's reviews, I didn't go see this either. Movie Mom said it was like watching clips of all of his previous movies...and the ending didn't deliver, just as was my concern.

I'm now convinced that Shyamalan is not a good director.

I guess he just got lucky with his first movie, but that's about it. I thought everything else sucked or was just mediocre at best.

He is Over-rated.

My 2 cents on M.Night:

Sixth Sense = Very good
Unbreakable = good
Signs = Fail
The Village = OK
Lady in the Water = OK

It seems he knows how to pick his tallent for the most part, so he (previously) had good acting in the films. Even the best actors on earth can't make up for a weak story or a less than satisfying ending. He seemed destined for great things, and then started churning out very average movies.

The problem with the Happening is that there was no character development... at all. If you dont' have an action packed movie to grip the viewer, you have to have character and plot progression. Niether existed in this movie. It just started and the same thing took place throughout the entire movie. Fine... I can initially buy the concept of why it happened, but they didn't develop it, didn't explain it. Then suddenly you start thinking, "well wasn't that convenient" or "that just doesn't make sense." There was almost a sense of arrogance with that movie as if he thought he didn't need to do those fundamental things to create a good movie.

I was pissed, not because the movie sucked, but because we all missed out on what could have been a one of kind, unbelievably fatastic movie.

Bastard!:D

Just who does he think he is?:D

Everyone knows that character development and plot are the 2 most important factors to a great movie. I guess he doesn't know that.
