The deepest bass from a bookshelf?

I bet my $500 sub could out do both of your BP7001's in terms of bass output without breaking a sweat. Did someone say 110dB at 20Hz with headroom to spare? :p;)
Now why did you have to go and pop my bubble like that?

Okay, rephrase: $500 "Mass Market/Commerical" subwoofers, not "DIY" subwoofers.:p

Besides, we only need 90dB anyway. So there.:p

That counts as using a sub (actually two subs), though.
Oh, I thought he meant a "separate" or stand-alone subwoofer. I think a lot of high-end companies employ built-in powered subs in their towers too, but they just don't advertise it unless you read the fine print.

To me, it's just another driver in 3-way speaker: Tweeters, Midrange/Upper Bass, & Subwoofer. The BeoLab-5 tower speaker has 4 drivers and 4 amps: 250 watts Tweeter, 250 watts Midrange, 1000 watts Upper Bass, & 1000 watts Subwoofer.

But a single BP7000SC tower's bass output will beat my old NHT SW2P Subwoofer anyday. Two BP7000SCs will kill one NHT SW2P.:D

I bet mine will too :D (techically may not meet the price due to the amp).

Hey annukaki I was wondering how good those Pinnacle speakers are. How would you characterize their sound? Anything in particular they compare to? I mostly like smooth clean midrange without being forward or bright. Have you heard any Epos speakers like the ELS-3, M5 or M12?
I have not heard the Epos at all, sorry.

I bet my 48" BP7001SC towers (built-in 1,500-watts, 10-inch sub, 2 10-inch radiators) and my 53" BP7000SC towers (built-in 1,800-watts, 14" sub, 2 14" radiators) will blow away any $500 or less subwoofer. I can't gurantee for subwoofers greater than $500 since they do make some really nice subs these days from SVS or HSU or Epik, etc.

A single PB10 vs. your 7001's will be a lot closer than you think. Powered woofers in towers are limited by the smallish footprint of the cabinet, but more importantly the placement of the towers. The chances of the placement of the towers at properly listening position for the midrange/highs *and* sub is practically nil.

Even so, what point are you trying to make? You're comparing $1750 towers with a less than $500 sub? Obviously the bass wasn't enough -- even with FOUR towers, you still got the Trinity ;)

Deepest bass from a bookshelf? Not sure if it's considered a bookshelf as its kinda big, but the S-150THX from M&K would get my vote.

For true "bookshelf" size speakers, there are going to be inherent tradeoffs. The cabinet is only so big, and taking 90% of it up with a bass driver is going to have an impact on the midrange/tweeter. The overall speaker may not sound so good. Most quality bookshelves focus on the midrange and tweeter and depend on a sub to pick up the lowest lows.

Ok, I think it's time for something that has been long awaited. I don't think I am alone here when I say we need to see what you have Joe. You should start a member's system thread with pictures of your speakers, amps, and other equipment. Heck, this will help us find the perfect match speakers for your decor.;)

Let me know what's up Joe.:D

I was just trying to add some humor, dude. Ligthen up, man.
Yeah, my BP7000SCs and BP7001SCs really suck. They produce girly bass.

I'm not trying to make any point whatsoever.

Oh, and by the way, it's BP10, not PB10.

I was talking about the SVS PB10.

I wasn't insulting your speakers. I have powered towers myself, but they in no way could pull "sub duty" without being a disappointment, even in my smallish room.

If you can afford around $2,000 on the used market you can score a pair of Totem Mani-2's,without a doubt the best sounding book shelf ive ever heard, those lil suckers have big balls in the bottom end,i think they go down to about 30 but dont hold me to that,my memory's a bit foggy with this migrane headache i have tonight:(

Killer resale on the Mani-2's also,if you get a good price used & decide to sell later on you wont lose much,if any loss at all, they fly off the used shelf.

$2K for used small monitor speakers? Man, that's expensive. So what are they brand new? $4K for a pair of small monitor speakers? That is expensive.

Heh Mani-2 are anything but small. They are not monitor speakers, more like big stand mounts. They retail for almost $6000 and IMO the best speaker Totem makes. They use Dynaudio dual 6.5in drivers.

Dimensions: 16.5 x 8.5 x 12"

I own M&K S-150's. They are made to be paired with a subwoofer, so they don't really go low, but they do sound amazing. I have demo'd speakers of considerable more money (even an order of magnitude) that I didn't like more than the M&K S-150s. All the M&K stuff was a great buy though. I say "was," because he can't buy them anymore though, except on the used market, because M&K is gone. :/

Yeah, it's a shame. I first heard the 150's at Epcot in Disney's Ultimate Home Theater. Blew me away. My wife bought me 650's for christmas that year. Always wanted to upgrade to 150's down the road. Oh well :(

You have a wife with great taste, those are great bookshelves. ;) Looks like you will be able to upgrade to S-150s after all at some point! I want to buy SS-150s (sides) at some point and a pair of MX-350s. But, I don't have the place or money for them right now, which is probably for the best. ;)
