The Dave Holland Big Band

I recently purchased the CD titled Overtime by the Dave Holland Big Band. To all jazz fans out there I recommend that you run to the nearest record store, do not pass go, do not collect 200.00, and purchase this CD. Great musicianship, great compositiions, great arranging and an excellent recording. Combinations like this don't happen often enough.

Dave Holland fan...

I own about a half dozen Dave Holland CD's with his quintet (Prime Directive, Not for Nothin', et al) but since I've never been much of a big band guy I didn't buy either of his recent big band releases.

Someone else told me not to let that influence and go out and by this CD anyway. Now that it's gotten a second endorsement I just may go and check it out.

For me, the closest thing to big band music I've ever enjoyed was Jaco Pastorious' "Word of Mouth" big band. I'll give Holland a try though...
