The cost of receiver upgrade?

I've noticed that a lot of you upgrade your receiver fairly regularly. I've got an HK 325 that I'd like to upgrade so I could get video on zone 2 & a couple more inputs, but I'm worried that I'd lose too much selling it.
What do you guys do? Just bite the bullet? Do you have a number that you'd like to get & if you don't get it, you don't sell?
Any pointers to get the most possible? I'm in Canada & paid $900 + 15% tax a year ago. Keep in mind that this sold for $1500 regularly!

Thanks.

I usually give mine away when I upgrade. Give it to a family member or friend or one of the neighborhood kids. Electronics lose their value very rapidly because they get better and cheaper every year. If you try to sell, don't expect more than about 30% of what you paid - better to give it away and make someone happy.

Check eBay and www.audiogon.com for current pricing on some of your old equipment that you want to sell. Some recent model stuff goes for more than other stuff. Some brands also hold their value a lot better.

Then, just as you did with your current receiver, look for a new receiver that you can get a good deal on. For example, the Yamaha RX-V2400 offers zone 2 with video and zone 3 audio only. Since it is last years model, there are a some good prices to be had.

Make sure it covers some of the other things you may want so it isn't outdated a year from now if at all possible.

It may be too late to get a great price for your current receiver, in the future if you want to get the most out of a receiver or any other piece of equipment be a smart shopper. The less you pay for a product the less you lose when it is time to upgrade. (sometimes I consider the money I lose during an upgrade a "rental" fee)
I also agree with BMXTRIX, look around on ebay to see what others are getting for the same receiver. Don't be affraid to set its price at what you want to sell it for. If you set your price too low someone may think there is something wrong with it. If used correctly the internet can be a powerful tool!

Thats my 2 cents..

Thanks for the help.
I think I'll try selling it. I'll ask $750 & hope for $700. If I don't get it, I can get around the zone 2 video problem by using another xbox as a media client upstairs.
Wish me luck.
