I'm definately buying this on vinly..180gm at that . It usually includes a download coupon to get the music in both lossless and 320Mbyte MP3 format.

I like what I've heard so far.:)

What kind of SQ can I expect from a CD from these guys?
It's always hard to tell from the combo of youtube vids and my crappy computer speakers what to expect.

I can see the possibilties running a pretty big gamut.

The quality of teh Black Key's recordings in the past were medicore at best. A few earlier releases were full of distortion from over driving the recording limits. I don't know if this was done on purpose to drive home the rawness of their music. The "Brothers" recording was considerably cleaner in that respect. Much less distortion, at least on my vinyl version. The MP3 downloads that came with the vinyl also seemed to be of similar quality as the vinyl. I think its fair to say that you can expect to hear some distortion from this latest release. It doesn't bother me a bit as it fits with their type of music. :)

The vinyl single is a 12" that plays from the inside-out! I was so tempted, but ultimately passed it up...

There was a great article in Mojo about the recording of Brothers (when the album first came out). They recorded it with an engineer at Muscle Shoals instead of doing it themselves in Akron, OH.

Brothers is pretty well recorded. Thick Freakness is also good, but you can hear the difference from the older stuff to the newer.

I listened to the samples from all the tracks for this album and I will probably pick it up.

I'm getting it tonight on CD. I heard some cut's on NPR the other day and it sounds very good.

The CD (they still make those?) is only $9.99 on Amazon :) Just haven't ordered it because I am not sure if I want cloud or good old fashioned CD :p

Was also considering Dan Auerbach's solo album from a few years back, which sounds pretty good too.

I love how they title their CD El-Camino but have a picture of a 1st or 2nd generation Dodge Caravan. Priceless

The main dig about the Keys is that once you bought 1 album you didn't have to buy any more (because they all sounded the same). Things started to change with A&R, seeing them open up & experiment a little more. For the most part, their previous albums more closely resemble Magic Potion more than the last 3...

If you get the chance you should definitely check them out live! They really kick! Also, I was shocked to see Dan fingerpicks most of the time - pretty cool...
