I wish I could come with something constructive to say, but I can't.

We have bigger issues than this going on in the country.

I think he's going to have the Nobel Prize Committee determine the winner before the season has started. That should make things considerably easier. ;)

I totally agree..... Obama's Marxist dismantling of the economy is a much bigger issue.

It would be nice to see a playoff format...but without intervention fron government. Besides I'm tired of seeing certain Bowls(ie: Rose Bowl;)) only wanting certain teams from a specific conference would've loved to see the Gators or Bosie play OSU. BTW...B_N...I'll raise 2 RB's for one BCS...ROLL TIDE and the SEC!

Weich made note of the fact that President Barack Obama, before he was sworn in, had stated his preference for a playoff system. In 2008, Obama said he was going to "to throw my weight around a little bit" to nudge college football toward a playoff system
WTF???!!!!

This is not the purview of the president.

I agree. I don't think the Gov't should be involved, but the system won't change. All those teams in those conferences that are guaranteed a bowl, get a share in the pot. So, why would they want to change how the BCS is working. If they do, they could lose out on their year end bonusus.

This letter was nothing more than a political gesture and doesn't mean anything.

They can't do anything about this. The supreme court would strike down any law they passed.

Let him go for it. It will yet one more thing he'll try and fail at. "I tried to change college football. But you know... I inherited 8 years of the prior administrations misguieded efforts at fixing college football playoffs."

Let's say there's some soft of playoff system designed. Extra games will be played to arrive at a winner. Now, that might be great for the schools, for the coaches, for ratings and all that. Is it that great for the players who are looking to enter the pro ranks? Football's a pretty tough sport when it comes to injuries and if you're a projected first rounder already, do you want to risk 2, 3, 4 more games where if you get injured you're now a 2nd, 3rd, or not even selected? Look at the Pro Bowl. Great honor. If the Super Bowl was one month away, you could play and recover from the exertion. But would you play knowing that if you got injured, your ability to play in the big one just went out the window?

Most players have no shot at a pro career.

There are only 224 draft picks every year and many don't even make the team

I think the idea that injury risk should justify the bowl system is a poor one. Still this is only a political gesture nothing else. A letter doesn't mean you are actually doing anything. Still I think the exploitation of young athletes is deplorable. A European system would be the better approach IMO. Having a multi-tiered pro system would allow 2nd tier players to make a living.

Does it cost as much to go to a sporting event in Europe, as in the US? Who will support this second tier league? We have semi-pro already and arena has come and gone several times.

You can check out European Soccer to understand how the system works.

Basically you have 4 leagues(no college teams) The leagues are comprised of 20 teams that play each other twice every year. The team with the best record is the champion. The playoffs are done separately throughout the season. There is a domestic cup and a european cup(if your good enough in your own league)

Many times lower tier teams gain money by selling their players to upper tier teams.

Now in the NFL you'd be talking about a huge change. Teams that didn't cut the snuff would be dropped to the 2nd league while teams that did well in the 2nd league would promote. Of course there is no salary cap in this paradigm. It's pure capitalism. But it does reduce the top league to only the best talent.

I suppose a Super Bowl would be demanded. So i'd propose 2 divisions of 10 teams with the winner of either division being the champions and meeting in the Super Bowl.

The second tier would be similarly organized and the bottom 2 teams in each division would be up for demotion. You could see how intriguing the system can get. Far more interesting than our current system.

Yes, there aren't that many picks. But there'll be a few in the teams that make the playoffs. If you're that guy, do you want to risk your one chance on a few more games? I agree it's a political gesture and Orrin ought to be focusing his attention on things more important. They all should. Maybe they can pass some more ceremonial resolutions.

Honestly I don't mind them taking this on. If it distracts them from doing stupid things with our money.

+1, but they would probably mess up the college system more than it may already be.

LOL yeah, but I imagine in 20 years we will have a playoff. Just gotta wait for the old folks to retire. I'd also like to see them pay players a stipend.
