The original Batmobile is up for sale Original Batmobile from 1960s TV series to be auctioned - CBS News.

I had always imagined it was a full-sized Pontiac from the early 1960s with some serious custom body work, but according to the article, it was a modified 1955 Lincoln Futura.

A quick google image search revealed, that the sleek crime-fighting vehicle wasn't so heavily modified at all (except for that turbojet engine).

The flames didn't even shoot out. It was more like a big bunsen burner IIRC.
