I just bought my very first system and I'm so thankful for all that you've said. I'm so happy of my purchase, especially in my receive: Onkyo TX-SR605. Well, just to share my though regarding the receiver. Previously, someone said that their are frequent "clicks" and "ticks" that can be heard. In my case there isn't. Yes, it heats up but not as much as those other older Onkyo models. Inputs are very sufficient and sound's fantastic. I also like its features like the Remote Interactive (I also have an Onkyo CD player that's why) although I find "Theater Dimensional" useless for stereo setup. There is only one flaw that I've encountered though...

I tried to calibrate my speakers via Audyssey. Yes, it preform the test as expected. However, the display hangs when I want to verify the SPL calculations, speaker distance, etc. (the word "CALCULATING" was there for 30 minutes).

But generally, I am very happy with my system. Once again, I felt the excitement of rushing for home after work. Oh by the way, here what I've purchased:

A/V receiver: Onkyo TX-SR605
Front: Monitor Audio BR5
Subwoofer: Velodyne CHT-12R
CD player: Onkyo DX-7355

My next target is a plasma or LCD screen (minimum 40"), DVD player and a center speaker.

Congrats on your purchase! I see you have the MA BR5. I haven't heard MA in some time. How would you describe the sound of the BR5?

That really does sound to me like a warranty issue. You may want to explore it - if only to make sure it works for the eventuality of if/when you sell it.

It seems rather long. With the Denon it takes about 4-5 minutes for 6 position calculation.

Treble is excellent. Midrange is also good and I don't mind the higher bass freq because the subwoofer will take care of it.

Oh by the way, I read a post (I think its not here in Audioholics though) saying that the BR5 isn't impressive when played with rock like Arctic Monkeys et al. Well, I played progressive, grunge, glam, punk, etc. Name it. Nickelback, Disturbed, and Symphony X, listening to them with my new speaker made me 6 years younger!

Onkyo receivers have 'clicked' on power on/off and input selection for as long as I can remember. It's something I actually depend on; the last thing my system power on macro does is turn on the receiver and when I hear the click, I know it's done and can release the button.

I wonder if people are mistaking that for a defect or if there really were some units that had an actual problem with clicking when it shouldn't.

A good speaker is a good speaker. It doesn't know what music, or if it is even music, that it is converting to audible air pressure changes

Just shows you how much urban legend there is out there.
