Technics SB-AV3000 - Can't find anything!

I was looking into buying some of these on Craigslist, but I've never heard anything about them, and surprisingly Google is no help, has anyone here had any experience with these speakers? Would I be being ripped off if I paid $150 for them? Thanks!

They are not worth half that IMO. I wouldn't recommend anyone pay more than $50 for them, they'd be fine for a garage or party speaker, but not for $150.

Technics actually did have some very impressive speakers at one time (for the era and price), but these are not one of the models.

I recommend SB-7000 from Technics if you want a Technics speaker with actual high performance. It was a full range 3 way that had impressive even off axis response and low distortion. It had a pretty good linear response, as well, with about +/- 2db from 45-16kHz, with no substantially wide peaks or dips to throw off tonal balance, allowing for an averaged, over-all very good accurate representation of the signal; for it's day it was a great speaker, but it's still a great speaker by today's standards, comparing to anything 'new' around it's price you can but it for used in excellent condition. You can usually find these on ebay every couple of weeks for a great/low price. So if you want an impressive full range speaker for cheap, and also desire a Technics branded unit, this is a great option.

I actually own two pairs of these and i have to disagree completely with Seth.
You must have clean power with plenty of headroom to truly apreciate all that these speakers can do. Let these speakers breathe and they will leave you breathless.
I use an emotiva amplifier to push these bad boys and OMG!!!!
Truth be told, modding the crossovers will only serve to enhance the sound, if done correctly these speakers hold their own against my Wilson Pupps or my Martin Logans.
Bass can be boomy if speakers are not positioned properly in a room so experiment and adjust accordingly.
Very flat waveform with considerable rolloff where it is to be expected, around the 28-30hz range.
No discernable coloration of sound issues or boxiness.
Much louder than my ears can handle
I love these speakers and have for many years.
Almost no info exists about these speakers because they were very rare.


They serve us well in our winter vacation home and take on all duties from movies to dance parties with neighbors without breaking a sweat..
I love these speakers, they retailed for $1200 a pair in 1992 and are still worth every penny. BOTTOM LINE___BUY THESE IF YOU CAN...VERY RARE AND VERY COLLECTIBLE..

That's very interesting, because they look like typical vinyl wrapped Technics floor speakers with two 12" woofers, paper mids, and paper tweeters, in large unbraced cabinets made from particle board.

Would you care to share some pictures of yours? Perhaps what I am seeing is not the correct model. I find it's very helpful to spread knowledge and pictures of rare items to establish value and awareness.

You nailed it Seth.

This was the type of speaker that was partnered with the rack systems from the 80's and early 90's. Which Technics sold a ton of.
