Hah, found this in our basement and tried it out (my old "receiver" was from a philips shelf stereo set so I figured pretty much anything was an improvement.) I've got my laptop (macbook for anyone who cares) hooked up through a radioshack RCA->1/8" converter (I also have one that I made myself that seems to work a bit better...) playing through the receiver and into 2 KLH 510's and the two speakers from the previously mentioned Philips Shelf Stereo set.
Okay, so questions about this old receiver.
When I adjust the volume knob I get a white-noise-popping sound but the volume DOES increase.
When I TOUCH the volume knob (put ANY pressure on it, wether turning, pushing or tilting like a lever) I either get white noise through my speakers, or channels start cutting out.
Flipping the loudness to the "on" position not only increases the low end at low volume like it's supposed to but also makes channels cut in and out.
I've adjusted connections, plugged and replugged everything. I even switched out the RCA->1/8" converter cord that I was using.
I understand it's an old receiver but I'd love to get it working either to keep to set up for my mom at home or to take with me when I move out.
Any thoughts?
