I have a TC2000 and I was wondering what you subwoofer guru's would build for an enclosure. I know I can search for other build threads but I am interested in what you would do. I don't want a sonotube because of size and I don't know the limitations of the sub that would make it better in one situation or another. I lean more towards movies but I love music also. So what do you think? Power would be from a ep2500....

Try modeling a folded slot port for it. They give you low distortion with a nice tune. Remember to tune just above Fs or you will give up precious headroom.

Is a folded slot port the same as what is used in the Kappa build or is it much different. Also what is the difference between a slot port and a round tube for a port sound wise? Is it just one has less distortion than the other?

The kappa build is a folded slot port design.

The difference is fairly aesthetic. Most folks aren't allowed a towering port. Plus it's hard to get the appropriate diameter for low port compression with most round tubes. I've explored this option extensively and not found a satisfactory solution aesthetically and cost wise. I won't bore you with discussions on the benefits of such a solution as I'm aware of your build experience via the Shack. Still most subs don't have big enough opening to breath through. Try breathing through a straw to get the idea.

Well any experience I have I learned at these forums. My builds have been simple sealed cabinets, one with a Shiva and now that I have that 2000 I want to do something different with it. I have it in a sealed 4cf box now and although it sounds good I want to use the lower end capabilities of it and so a ported enclosure seems like the way to go.

I need to look up the T/S parameter for you to try a box on it.

Isiberion what do you think of an "A" frame type sub enclosure for this driver? I am just thinking of something out of the norm.

I've not messed with an A frame enclosure. If you have the desire to experiment it may be a fun project. But for pure performances I think the folded slot port will give you real depth with the sub.

Do you have an xmax parameter?

Also what size are you trying to keep it under. The larger the box the more extension you can typically get and with an 18hz Fs you can get some very nice extension.

If you are modeling it yourself you will want to port it above the Fs point.

It was just a thought, about the A frame, but as far as the size I can go higher then wider so something in the order of 40'' h and 26''w and 26''L or something close to that. Xmax is 28mm one way.

If your xmax is accurate then a 5 cuft box with 20hz tuning and a 6" square port that goes the length of 43" will work if you plan to use a 4th order L-R filter at 20hz.

If you prefer to use a 2nd order butterworth filter you'll need to step up to 7" x 7" x 60"

I will say if extension isn't your goal that you can certainly tune higher. I designed this so there is only a 1 db drop from 100hz to as far down as the xmax would allow in an unfiltered design. If you want to go with a bigger box to really stretch the sub. The furthest I'd go is 7 cuft.

You can adjust the square to a rectangle Just make sure to keep the ratio as close to square as you can.

You will want to place a large section of bracing behind the driver and cover it with 4" of 8lb rockwool to eliminate mechanical noise. You can add additional rock wool to cover have the internal surface. This is up to you don't overdampen it. See the Infinity Kappa perfect thread for ideas on how to brace and dampen properly.

Make sure you wrap the rockwool in fabric.;)

This sub can deliver 120 db at 20 hz with room gain that could be insanely high.

Excellent, thanks soo much. I hope to get something started on this in about a month once I can wiggle some time. I'll get on the enclosure calculator to determine the size of the box but I should be able to incorporate it into my room without a problem.

I know the time crunch deal. I get rain delays whenever I have free time. ;)
