Taking full advantage of HDMI?

I have this projector and will be using a Sony 75H DVD player. I want to run HDMI cables to take advantage of the HD upconverting.

To take full advantage of HDMI (audio and video), do you need a receiver that has both HDMI inputs and an output? If not, I can understand sending the video straight to the projector, but what about the audio? Would you then use a separate audio cable?

Ideally you would send the HDMI to a receiver and then break it out from there. I thought I saw an HDMI audio-video breakout box somewhere online, but I can't seem to find it. Maybe I just imagined it.....

You would need a receiver that doesn't exist yet. From what I hear current receivers don't even switch the HDMI or pass it properly, and none decode the audio correctly yet either. And thats not even touching on the HDCP standard still floating without making a full landing yet.

HDMI direct to the display device for video, something else to the receiver for audio. HDMI switchers appear to work now, but unless its something you really need, I would wait until all the dust settles.
