Taking apart an Onkyo RC-690M remote for the TX-SR805/875/876

So a while back my younger son spilled whipped cream on my remote and ever since I had trouble with sticking buttons. So I went to the hardware store to figure out what size star-bit I needed to take out the screws (it's a T6 in case anybody is wondering).

After unscrewing it, I still can't get the top off. It feels like something is holding it in place other than the 4 screws I just removed. I don't want to try to force it off because I don't want to chance snapping the top in half either.

Is there a trick to removing the top?

I'm surprised nobody has any feedback since there are so many Onkyo owners here.

Hi. There are probably also plastic tabs to keep the top and bottom snapped together, but if you are getting a lot of resistance, there might be a screw still in there. Double check and make sure that you haven't missed any screws. Sometimes there's one or more screws in the battery compartment, or perhaps under a sticker.

I read a thread about this and they used DeoxIT D5 that is safe on plastics. Remove the battery and and spray some in around each on the buttons. Do wear some eye protection. If this does not work look on Eprey as I found a site with hundreds of remotes that were tested, I purchased a good used remote for my Yamaha RX-V1900 (2009 model) from them for about $24.00 shipped. It went AWOL and has run away from home.

Thanks for the help. I did finally manage to get it apart, although I broke one of the plastic tabs in the process, but it still holds together fine.

E-bagger.... isn't that the truth.... more like E-sniper. I use to love bidding on E-bay, not to mention you could get some great deals, but now a lot of sellers just gouge or when you bid with 3 minutes left, somebody bids with 3 seconds left.
