Well, I'm no Takeereasy, but I've been there. I bought my receiver, four speakers, subwoofer and all wires/cables/interconnects from them. I found there prices to be competitive, and they had better selection than places like Future Shop or Best Buy. I've only dealt with one salesperson from 2001 Audio/Video. And unfortunately, he wasn't terribly sharp when it came to home theatre stuff -- he had some pretty funny ideas. But he was a nice guy -- nice enough to give me sweet discounts on all my purchases: discounts that averaged around twenty-three percent!

I would buy from them again in a minute.

Just my two cents.

cheers,

I noticed this store on a venture thru Toronto but I haven't had time to go through it. Closet one to me is in Whitby. Are they authorized dealers say for PSB and Yamaha? Do they carrry turntables? Do they carry more PSB and Yamaha then what is shown on their web page?

They are indeed authorized dealers for both Yamaha and PSB.

I don't remember seeing any turntables last time I was there, but I've only been to one of their stores -- the one at Weston and the 401. Looking at their website, they don't mention it, so it's probably a slim chance. I know that Bay Bloor Radio has a few turntables, if you're coming back into T.O.

It's possible that 2001 has more stuff than on their website; I remember idly calling them to find out if they had the Panasonic S97 in stock months ago, and they did, even though it was nowhere on their website. If they carry the brand of what you're looking for, it's likely they can order something in, even if it's not on their website.

cheers,

Supervij is right, they are authorized dealers for everything they carry. I'm not a huge fan of 2001 Audio Video but it is where I purchased all my speakers from. I got my PSB 2B's for $319 for the first pair and $300 for the second pair and $285 for the 8C. All prices include tax. They had a "blow out sale" where they were selling 2B's off for $350 plus tax but the salesguy had a lot of wiggle room. I know how they got to carry PSB and for a long time the whole array of Marantz receivers up to the 7400. Lenbrook was the distributer fo PSB and Marantz and they sold out all of the old image series stock to 2001 and let them carry Marantz as well. This resulted in my local shop (Whitby Audio Video) dropping both brands despite the fact that they are the local authorized repair shop for both. I guess being in the same province as the manufacturer has some advantages. One problem with 2001 is that they are very sales focused. They like to really sell hard since they're commision based. If you can put up with some high pressure tactics (not really that bad but annoying) you can get some great deals from this shop. I've never got less than 15% off of a purchase there yet. My second problem is that the selection of subwoofers is atrocious and everyone they have working there seems to swear by Cerwin Vega, lol. My other problem is that much of the staff isn't that well schooled in Audio despite the fact that they carry what I believe are some great brands. Think Futureshop employees with better products to sell. That can really work to your advantage however, since they don't know what they are selling, you can make it seem like you're upset with the price, or do what I did, quote them a lower price and see if they'll match it. I was 2 days away from ordering from the States before I went in there. The PSB selection is pretty limited. Alphas, minis, 4Ts, 5Ts and 1Bs were all they had the last time I was there but that was months ago. They do have a website; 2001audiovideo.com and they have a clearence centre in Toronto, I think it's on Markham Rd. but you'll have to check. They carry Mission speakers, all the Yamaha amps and several of their speakers, entry level Marantz, what I think is a house brand called Reference, and a nice selection of TV's and a few Projectors as well including the new Panny on this site that got such great reviews (like Supervij said). If you are in Whitby again though, and want to have a little fun in a higher end shop, go to Whitby Audio Video. They carry Monitor Audio, Linn, Paradigm, NAD, Anthem, Bryston, and a ton of other high end stuff. The downstairs rooms are movie theatres and they have demos and consignments around all the time. They have a website too, whitbyaudiovideo.com. I know they were clearing out the 05 series from Denon at some decent prices, but they don't have the inventory of say Bay Bloor Radio. Anyways to make a long story short, 2001 Audio Video is really worth checking out. The prices are usually great, the selection is better than most places despite the small size, and they are authorized dealers.

Hey guys, I know this isn't about the store since I am in Virginia, but I know you guys love PSB.

I got my 2Bs and they sound great. The 9c is on its way!

I think my next step will be the sub. I think I would go with the 6i if I bought from PSB, but I know that I don't have to stick with them for a sub.

Can you guys recommend a better sub or manufacturer for less than, say ... $500 that will fit in well with my current system?

Thanks for the info.

Congrats on the 2B's. I enjoy mine more and more, especially since I've been able to listen to many similarly priced models from competitors, and from my listening experience I think they are an incredible buy. Not good, not great, incredible, lol. I'm jealous of the 9C, I wanted it but there wasn't room in the entertainment center I was forced to use at the time. The 6i is a heck of a sub but I'd say you may want to consider HSU and SVS, just like everyone else on this site, lol. For $500 plus $27 shipping I'd say go with the HSU VTF-2 MK2. http://www.hsustore.com/vtf2.html I've never heard the SVS offering (the PB10) and that is the only reason I'd suggest HSU. I've heard the VTF-2MK2 and was blown away by the fact it was a 10" sub. Follow the link and read the reviews. One reviewer got 93db at 20hz in a very large room.

3db and I must be getting a littl etoo rabid since everyone knows what big PSB fans we are, lol. I actually bought a pair of PSB Avantinis from 1974 just to give them a listen, and you know what, they can still hold their own.

Good luck with the sub purchase jasoncorrie and congrats again. Just wait till you hear a sub fill in the lows, makes a great speaker that much better.

Hate to talk bad about anyone.

But 2001 Audio Video in my opinion is the worst place you could go to buy audio/video equipment.

Yes, they do carry a few decent brands like PSB etc.

But, pretty much everything is manufacturers retail pricing.

Earlier this year I just got my first digital reciever. Went with a Yamaha RXV757 btw.

Well, I was looking at the HTR series in Futureshop and Bestbuy. But also did alot of research online previously.

I went to 2001AudioVideo and the Yamaha was literally manufacturers retail price (the price on Yamaha's website).

I think it was either $699 or $799 canadian.

I went to an independent electronics retailer, the store isn't the most organized or anything, but I got the same receiver for $499, which blew my mind. They went out of their way to get me to buy something, anything! I don't know how much money they're making or what their cost is, but wow, 2001AudioVideo will maybe budge $20 on their prices, but this store offered this receiver to me at this price, no haggling.

They also have some great speaker brands, a nice selection of stands, TV's, car audio and all that.

I'm just saying, I used to think that big chain stores must be able to offer products cheaper than some mom & pop shop, but I was sorely mistaken. 2001AudioVideo is a chain btw, and they work on commission and generally don't seem all that knowledgable about their products.

My advice would be to look in the yellow pages and find some stores with names like "HiFi Dufferin" etc. (the one I'm speaking of is Whitby HiFi Center) and just go in and see what they offer, it HAS to be better than manufacturers retail atleast.

Oh, and I was looking in the 2001AudioVideo flyer a week or so ago, and the Yamaha RXV575 is still more from them than the RXV757 I got earlier this year from the HiFi store.
