TACT Digital Room Correction

After my pleasant experience with the room correction features on my Velo. DD-15 and a recent thread on equalization, I decided to order the TACT RCS 2.2.x. Does anyone have experience with Tact products or similar products?

digital room correction just sounds expensive to me, but thats me and not someone else, I'm sure it will be very beneficial

I'm particularly interested b/c I think I can place the Tact between a transport and a DAC, to modify the signal before the analog ouput stage. Essentially though, I think it is a fancy EQ (with a preamp).

The Tact is about $3K. I spend about 8 hours a day listening to 2 channel music, so I think it would be a good investment.

Thats a long time listening to music and if it improves your sound it could prove to be a great investment, whats the worst that could happen, you find out you dont like it and then return it.

$3k?! Sounds like a lot to me. How many channels? Got a link?

A BFD is $100. SPL meter and cables will still have it around $250-300 I think, and will let you tame most any major room issues (just not automatically :D ).

Check it!

There are several owners over at AC that wouldn't part with them if they had to choose between the TacT and their mothers.

I do the same thing you do. Got the pc serving lossless music to the behringer deq 2496 to the benchmark dac.

The behringer has equalization and a real time analysis thing. There is a companion microphone, and it has an auto-eq feature where it plays pink noise and equalizes the room response.

I don't know why you would spend so much if you are doing digital into the equalizer and digital out of the equalizer. I don't see how there can be a huge quality difference with yours, besides slightly differing algorithms. Even if you need the preamplifier feature, just get a benchmark dac, they cost 1000 dollars, and have volume control. I guess the Tact has slightly better specs.

I like your idea though.

I already have multiple DACs and just ordered the TEAC Esoteric D-70 DAC.

The reason I am going digital in and digital out is b/c I want all the correction done before it gets to the TEAC DAC, so that the analog ouput goes straight from the DAC into a different pre-amp. From what I understand, the TACT software is some of the best out there, but I'll find out soon enough.

Well, enjoy it. I agree with your methods all the way, I just use the poorer man's version.

Digital in to the eq, digital out to the dac is definitely the way to go. I'm sorry if I didn't make that clear, I definitely agree with you. I just hope your equipment's user interface and algorithms are awesome for the additional money. Its not the best, but I don't mind using the Behringer's small front panel display, and it has spdif in/out.

I hope to earn street cred with WMAx for mentioning Behringer 3 times

Yeah, there's a few guys there with pretty nice rigs using either TACT or DEQX.
