System “Upgrade”

I have an old Mirage Nanosat 5.1 system that I am looking to enhance. Upgraded my receiver to an Onkyo NR-595 last year and looking to connect the Atmos capability. I am planning to take the front left and right nanosats and use those for atmos and as such, will need to replace those two speakers. That is where I am soliciting advice and recommendations with Mirage no longer being in existence.

These replacements need to be “wife” friendly and as such cannot grow to much in size. Looking for something in the size range of the Martin Logan 2i/4i or Definitive ProMonitor 800/1000. Looking to spend now more than $500 for the pair. Thoughts???

Thanks

The one issue I see with that plan is that your new speakers will not likely be timber matched with your centre speaker if you continue to use the Mirage as a centre. The Mirage, with its up-firing tweeter will sound different from the Martin Logans or Definitive ProMonitors which are both forward firing (as are most speakers). That can make dialogue sound odd as it moves from left to centre to right. If your goal is to improve music, changing the L/R will help, but for home theatre you might be better off to save a little longer and replace all 3 front speakers from the same brand.

The Definitive ProCentre 1000 is the same price as the 1000 monitor (or go with 3 the same if you don't need a horizontal centre). The 1000 vs 800 and 4i vs 2i will gain you better bass response. The 2i only goes down to 115Hz while the 4i reaches 70Hz. I'm not that familiar with those brands, but if you're looking for on-wall you might want to also consider Revel and Elac in that price range.

Hmm your only upgrading front speakers? I don’t understand micro speakers, infinity has towers on sale right now that would destroy any small speakers. Sorry you gotta go small , I’d consider arx bookshelves or the .
I’d say this is right under minimum size for a center it may work , emotiva c1 is better tho .
I’d go for 5” + drivers on all
Speakers. Def technology feels like an sideways upgrade but get larger model .
I’d convince your wife or just get infinity 263 and explain towers are superior. Get whatever the largest center you can afford it’s most important or upgrade it after fronts if your budget is too low .

good luck, I wish Ihad gotten larger Klipch icon towers but 6.5” woofer seems fine.
go big or go home, anything beats satellites.
