Swans 2.1 Books vs 4.1 Floor vs 5.1 Floor

Hi all, I am going to try to rephrase my question better. I was looking into getting a pair of Swans 4.1 floorstanding speakers untill I realized they were 4ohm speakers.

I am most likely going to have a pair of thumping Tapco S8's as desktop monitors. (I can't seem to find any swans M200's, and I like the way those Tapco studio monitors sound. Prices just dropped on the S5's and S8's by the way.)

I would love to get a pair of Swans 2.1 bookshelf, but they are out of stock everywhere. So, I was just about go with the 4.1s till I went looking for the amp. I figured should be getting a 8ohm system. If I can get 8-ohm floorstanding, should I choose those over the 4-ohm for sure? Amp consderation come later.

If your question is 4 ohm vs. 8 ohm thats easy:

Buy what sounds best to you!

Since you stated you're going to base your amp purchase on the speakers you pick, it shouldn't matter. 4 ohm speakers just require a little more robust amp.

you rock. Thanks for the words. I think would be getting the ONKYO M-282 2-Channel Power Amplifier 100W x 2chn @ 8ohms... But I bet you all knew those specs already :p

I am thinking about getting different speakers than the swans, but they look like a good deal.

Have you considered the 6.1's?

I know they are a bit more $$, but they are 8 ohm (providing more flexability) and I absolutley love mine. I bought them without hearing them (although I listened to everythging else) and have no regrets at all.

Also, the Faux Black Cherry finish looks very nice/subtle and saves quite a bit of coin.

In a week or two I'll be able to comment on the new Swans 5.2, but not yet. However if you're considering the Swans which are generally rumored to be quite a neutral speaker, why not look at the Ascend 340SEs? They're in a similar price bracket and are extremely neutral. I haven't heard the 340s but I love my 170SEs and the 340s should provide a very similar neutral sound only bigger, more like a floorstander. Unfortunately, they're backordered til at least March though, and don't look as good as the Swans.

Have you considered the new 4.2s? Bit more money but you get the 30-day money back plus they are I believe a 6 ohm load.
