I have been thinking about getting a new sub for a while, but I have not taking the jump because I have not been able to justify getting rid of something that is working OK......

However, I have been looking at these babies for a while, and now the sale seems to good to be true.

My question is????? Would I really hear a difference?

My sub v.s an SVS SB12-NSD or PB12-NSD

What do you all think?

I presume you are talking about the outlet pricing as those are both discontinued. Your Klipsch doesn't stand a chance, so yes either of them would be a significant upgrade.

Even a PB-1000 would kick the Klipsch out of the park. I absolutely love mine. A PB12-NSD would a fantastic upgrade. But if you're willing to spend that much money, spend a tiny bit more and get the PB-2000. Their customer service is fantastic and the performance is worth every penny. Seriously... I haven't read a single bad thing about SVS since I started researching them. Take the leap.

I'd also add their customer service is in my experience outstanding.

Darren at SVS has been a complete rock star going well above and beyond.

I'll let you know what I think of the sub once it arrives - SB13 Ultra.

The only thing stopping me is that I JUST dropped $650 on a pair of PSB Image T65 loudspeakers...

If you can reasonably afford it, go for it. Otherwise I think you'd still love a PB-1000 and you'd save $250.

On a side note... does anyone know what the -NSD means?

My living room is decently sized at a little over 2,000 sq. ft. but it opens up to my kitchen which is also about 2,000 sq. ft. so I'm worried the PB-1000 won't have enough headroom. I actually can get one on the used market for $400 (not on SVS' website though)

As far as I've heard, NSD=New Standard Driver.

That should read cubic feet, not square feet.

You're not talking about filling you're whole living room with just 1 sub, are you?

For the time being, yes, unfortunately. I have an odd-shaped living room in my apartment and it's already difficult to find a good place for a single sub, much less two

I would say SVS is the way to go. You got about the same space as I have, small apartment too. One will do fine for now, but you'll want to add another one later. dual subs is the way to go. I actually use 4 subs in the same space you have, but my sound preference is a little up normal anyway. SVS would be a great step in the right direction, at least you would be upgrading. Many people change their equipment but are only going sideways and that at the end will cost you a lot more.

Actually, the idea of moving up to two subs eventually is what worries me the most about buying the PB12-NSD. Since it's on clearance I likely won't be able to get a second one in a few years when I move into a house

Why do you say that? Are down firing subs better than front firing when you're going multiples?

I think if you're going to stay with a single sub for a while, that's what I started with and took me a few years to add another sub (which was front firing with a passive radiator and a 1000 watt amp). Now I've sold my older subs and have 2 new matching front subs plus I have some towers with powered subs build in (both have dual 8" drivers with 400 watt amps) which I use for side surrounds only till I get my matching sides and rears. BTW my front subs are down firing 15" isobaric.

I'm not sure I understand why you're saying I should go with a good down firing sub as opposed to say, a good front firing sub, though. Are you suggesting getting the PB12-NSD now and pairing it with a good down firing sub later, or getting a good down firing sub now and pairing it with an extra of the same make/model later?
