So are the prices going to hold the same? There's got to be a lot of margin if they are. I hope it works out for both parties involved.

I wonder if they'll now have to charge tax to internet direct customers in every state that has a Best Buy. I sure hope not.

I'm sure a big part of the reason SVS is doing this is to reduce the cost to them of shipping and return shipping. Best Buy/MDC's return window is just 15 days for the vast majority of its customers.

I think I read on AVS that they would only offer the SB2000 and SB13-Ultra in the Magnolia Design Centers.

Even if their assortment is limited at first, those two choices are hard-hitters in their categories.

They will be worlds better than anything BestBuy offers currently. Maybe it will work out for them, but when Hsu went retail by offering their subs at CompUSA, it was a disaster for them. Lower margins, their direct sales now had to compete with their retail sales, and their customer support was overwhelmed because the retailer didn't help them out much with post sales support, which added to their expenses. Since SVS is a considerably larger company, they should be able to handle the influx of support issues better, and maybe BestBuy has given them a sweetheart deal for large orders, so maybe it will work out for them. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

Can't beat a good thing. Probably more that Best Buy needs some new faces on their shelves because they're not exactly doing a lot these days compared to SVS who is, so it is good for both of them I think.

Wow! Hopefully it works out for them.

When the time comes to buy my second SB2000, I will still get it from SVS directly. Don't want to deal with BestBuy and its staff.

Why? Curious.

SVS Now in Magnolia Design Centers
Tom Andry — September 26, 2014 11:00

Back in February we interviewed SVS CEO Gary Yacoubian on the AV Rant Podcast. He stated that he was pushing to get SVS into more stores. We never would have imagined that he'd be so successful. Today, SVS announced their subwoofers will now be carried by Magnolia Design Centers. Yes, the ones inside Best Buy. All-in-all, this looks to be a great thing for SVS to increase their brand recognition and probably a great draw for Magnolia stores to access customers that usually buy online.

Because in my experience BB's sales people are often under-trained, pushy or both. But it's my own experience, as I said. Another thing I feel when I visit BestBuy is that they value their customers much less than smaller stores. I just don't like the general vibe in there.

Dealing with SVS, on the other hand, is always a pleasure.

Very cool indeed seeing this happening right before our eyes.

SVS is now becoming more Brick & Mortar like JL Audio and other B&M brands.

I would think pretty soon, the SVS loudspeakers will probably make their way into the B&M realm. :D

In general, I agree with you. But the Magnolia near me(inside the BB) is a different beast altogether.

When I bought my Pio elite, I got it from the Magnolia as an open box and without the box. I spent about 1 hour in there listening and BS'ing with the guy. The Pio elite had been sent out on an install, then the original purchaser decided he needed more than 3 HDMI inputs (this was ~7-8 years ago). Well, I don't even remember the price, but it was certainly reduced from the normal price, and it also included a $150 BB gift card with the purchase. At the end of the hour, the guy says "If you want that Pio, I can double that gift card to $300 but I can't wiggle on the cash price any more. SOLD!

So, I take the unit and my $300 card and go home and download the manual. I then realize that this unit originally came with a proprietary iPod cable and Cal Mike. So, the next day I went back and found the same guy and said "I know this is a long shot and I know this was open box, so I don't expect that you can help, but is there any chance that those cables are laying around in the back?"

So, he goes in the back and comes back out 10 minutes later with a large envelope with the manaual and EVERY other accessory that came with the unit. Hands it to me and says "enjoy".

Well, there was a little more to this story, but the bottom line is that at the end of the day, on my way out, I was obligated to stop by the customer service up front to speak to a manager. NOT to complain, but to tell them this guy is top notch and that I am absolutely thrilled with the transaction and service that he provided.

One other note, those guys (at least at my local BB Magnolia) don't work on commission either.

The moral of this story is that just maybe with a little patience and luck, there may be a deal to be had on an SVS at the Magnolia.

I've actually never had a bad experience with Best Buy, but they still aren't my favorite place. Prices aren't always the best, selection often sucks, but their service has never really been an issue and is typical of most big box stores IMHO.

BB has always been crap for me but I've not purchased anything from the Magnolia section so I can't speak to that.

I was buying stuff at Magnolia before BB bought them from Tweeter. Magnolia had excellent service. That kind of went down a bit when incorporated into BB.

I'm a total BB-Magnolia fan boy. If I was in the market for a sub I would totally check out SVS because then I could put it on my BB card.
