Because in my experience BB's sales people are often under-trained, pushy or both. But it's my own experience, as I said. Another thing I feel when I visit BestBuy is that they value their customers much less than smaller stores. I just don't like the general vibe in there.
Dealing with SVS, on the other hand, is always a pleasure.
In general, I agree with you. But the Magnolia near me(inside the BB) is a different beast altogether.
When I bought my Pio elite, I got it from the Magnolia as an open box and without the box. I spent about 1 hour in there listening and BS'ing with the guy. The Pio elite had been sent out on an install, then the original purchaser decided he needed more than 3 HDMI inputs (this was ~7-8 years ago). Well, I don't even remember the price, but it was certainly reduced from the normal price, and it also included a $150 BB gift card with the purchase. At the end of the hour, the guy says "If you want that Pio, I can double that gift card to $300 but I can't wiggle on the cash price any more. SOLD!
So, I take the unit and my $300 card and go home and download the manual. I then realize that this unit originally came with a proprietary iPod cable and Cal Mike. So, the next day I went back and found the same guy and said "I know this is a long shot and I know this was open box, so I don't expect that you can help, but is there any chance that those cables are laying around in the back?"
So, he goes in the back and comes back out 10 minutes later with a large envelope with the manaual and EVERY other accessory that came with the unit. Hands it to me and says "enjoy".
Well, there was a little more to this story, but the bottom line is that at the end of the day, on my way out, I was obligated to stop by the customer service up front to speak to a manager. NOT to complain, but to tell them this guy is top notch and that I am absolutely thrilled with the transaction and service that he provided.
One other note, those guys (at least at my local BB Magnolia) don't work on commission either.
The moral of this story is that just maybe with a little patience and luck, there may be a deal to be had on an SVS at the Magnolia.
