I was wondering what is the true difference between the PB-12 Plus and the PB-13 Ultra. I know the Ultra is more powerful and has a bigger woofer.

Being ported does that make a big difference with the way a sub sounds as well?

I am considering the PB-12 Plus but was wondering if the extra money be worth getting the PB-13 Ultra. I really do like the looks of this sub and the sub seems to get great reviews from every here as well.

They are both ported, but you have the option to run the ultra in a sealed mode. If you can afford the ultra, by all means get it, it would be the equivalent of having two PB-12 plus subs. That way you never have to wonder what if, and since you have the top of the line sub, you won't get the upgradeitis. The ultra will also play the really lows notes louder and cleaner.

You will not be dissapointed with the either units, but as GLocks said---if the funds are there go for the Ultra. There has yet to be a solid review of the PB12+ with measurements and all, but members that have theirs are extremely happy with them. Still if you can squeeze it out...go for the Ultra...

Yup, get the best sub you can afford. That way you won't have any regrets.;)

I've got no regrets with my PB12-Plus. Having the ultimate is always fun but room size and listening habits may not warrant having an Ultra.

Everything in my sig I bought in one shot cash 3 months ago under the WAF that "this is all I'll need for a long time."

If I buy anything else this soon, I can expect to become real good friends with my couch. =(

... that is a sweet sub... I wanted one of the cylindrical SVSs...

NO!!!! GO AWAY!!!!

I understand the WAF part. I would actually enjoy the couch some nights, thats where all my equipment is. LOL! I am going to keep with my supercube 1 for now.

Mine too! Nice!

I am using the subs in my towers, which I know are inferior... woe is me... :(

The subs in the 7006 towers are decent, but they just don't hit the low notes.

I have the 7006 towers in my bedroom, but I think they sound great... Maybe part of it is that my room is so small, but my friend has the older 2006 towers and no subs, and his sound really good too, but his room is bigger.

Nemo, Nemo, nemo when it comes to HT and WAF the two shall never meet. I have the BP7001's and even I need a SVS NSD 12/2 to get the real deep bass. Since you are in a "prediciment" where the wife will rip you a new one if you buy any new gear, may I suggest you go covert.

Buy some bass shakers (transducers) wait till she goes out for a few hours, and install em in the couch, then when she comes home and feels the couch shaking, either you won't get her off the couch (cause she's having to much fun ;) ) or she'll ask what you did. Just smile and tell her you turned up the bass in the towers a few notches and hence you now have added bass. If she's like most women, she'll be none the wiser and you'll get some decent bass.

Ported subs are almost always superior in the low bass extension. But only if the driver is designed for a ported build.

Ported subs also tend to be larger. In a home theater Ported is usually preferred. In a music setup not always.

Sweet! So, you can still slip in a sub under the, "don't need it, but want it" clause.

Now, go PM Glock and get that 20-39 PC+ enroute! :D

What I really want to see is a head to head shootout between an Ultra and the Kappa build. Those seem to be two of the most popular subs around here.

head to head is unnecessary if we can get ground plane tests of the kappa build.
