I just setup one of my two PB12-2/plus subs last night in an 1800 cubic foot of space... pretty good straight out of the box. I'm thinkin' my eyeballs are gonna pop-out with two. That was just watching Fantastic Four and without any taming from the BFD (which it needs a tad).
How does it compare to the Velo?

Surely you had realised this were the case prior to buying such a quality piece of sub gear. I personally would find a way to live with its size as it is one of the best bangs for buck around for movies and music.

I previously owned two sunfire True subs, one in each corner, but soon tired of its sound, especially on music. i guess I was spoilt when i had the 18" Bag End Infrasub.

My new SVS PB12-plus/2 easily out performs both of these models on movie soundtracks (including the two sunfires together) and is not too far off on the music from the Bag End - but the Bag End is a different sounding beast altogther. I'm very happy with the PB12 plus/2 as I feel I am getting the best movie experience (for the money and then tripple it) along with a sub that can go from sweet finnese to tight, sledge hammer punches in a blink.

If you were in Australia I'd buy it off you. Enjoy it....
dropbear what are you running the plus two at 16 or 20hz for music and ht?,also the sun cubes never did it for me while testing a few, even the signiture was a turn off ,Those little boxes are money makers to someones eyes.

Sorry for the delay in responding Ron... musta missed the notification somehow. I did get this last posting notification though.

I'd say they are fairly equal. My HGS-15 measured -4db at 16hz while the SVS measures -3db at 13hz when tuned to 16hz. But there's not an awful lot of material that I'd notice that difference in. The SVS has slightly more noticeable impact and punch. Even at loud levels I could not tell of any audible distortion differences, although it may be there, I just don't hear it. The real difference is in the price... the SVS being quite a bit less expensive even if you got the HGS-15 at a bargain.

With 2 SVS's in my room, it's totally unbelievable. I was skeptical that a second sub would make that much difference and ended up being quite surprised at how much more it adds to the experience. They will have you raising up in your seat holding on for dear life on some scenes. Awesome is not a good enough word for it.

I can't say anything bad about the Velo though, just that it is more expensive. I figure if I was trying to make a decision between Velo and SVS I'd favor SVS because of the price and ever so slightly better performance... that is if size doesn't matter because the SVS is almost twice the size of the Velo. If money is not a problem and size was then no doubt the Velo is the ticket.

I don't know that there is a better bang for your buck than the PB12-Plus/2's.

Sure it's big, my wife hates it and the topic of much conversation when
someone sees it. This is the now discontinued PB2ultra with custom white
oak stain.

Currently have it tuned at 20Hz, usually watch movies -10 with family at
home and -5 or higher when i'm alone.

Basshead, I'm running the SVS at 20Hz as I figure it gives me the best of both worlds for both Music and HT in my room. The sunfires, yeah, have to agree with your comments. Had purchased them at a time when space was a premium and they were the only units on the market at the time that could do what they do and at the time they did it good enough..funy how time changes things (and technology).... they were fun while I had them though )..
cheers
