SVS has a different marketing and distribution strategy is one reason; SVS is more an internet-direct manufacturer (altho they are more recently offering thru some more traditional avenues as well). JL vs SVS would be more model specific for comparisons. JL tends to shine in the smaller footprint-size subs, but you will pay a premium for it.

Reviews IMO aren't nearly as useful as good consistent 3rd party measurements, such as can be found at data-bass.com. A good quality speaker or sub doesn't care if you're playing music or movies, an accurate and capable speaker or sub is an accurate and capable speaker or sub....there is a general idea sealed is better for music, ported for movies, but there's a lot more to it as a well designed sub can do either no problem. Suggest you read some of the articles at data-bass.com such as the subwoofer myths http://www.data-bass.com/myths

There are more choices out there, check out Rythmik, Power Sound Audio, Hsu Research, Seaton Sound, JTR Speakers, Deep Sea Sound....

ps Funk Audio, too!
