Svs Sbc/scs-01 Vs Emp Htp-351t?

Question:

Are the EMPs actually discontinued RBH speakers or are they a separate design which shares some technology with RBH speakers?

This is from an Audioholics review:

"I was definitely interested in seeing how the EF50T's held up to the previously reviewed RBH TK-5CTs (TKs). They both cost about the same but there is where the similarities end. The design, footprint, driver size and configuration, ports… everything is different. I level matched the two and listened to a few albums. While it was clear that the EF50T's were a nice little speaker, the TK’s just had too much bass for a direct comparison. It was no contest. With the TK's side firing 8" woofer, larger cabinet, and ported design, that's not exactly a surprise."

Also, on the Audioholics Storefront, they are directly comparing the "RBH TK-5CTs" with the towers in the EMP HTP-371T 7.1 Speaker System.

Click on EMP HTP-371T 7.1 Speaker System, then click on Pro Reviews.

Is that accurate or misleading?

I read the EMPs used a different cone material but were otherwise about the same as the RBHs. I don't care if they are discontinued RBH if they sound as good as advertised.

The AH site says "The EMP EF30T tower speakers and EF30 bookshelf speakers are virtually identical to the highly acclaimed TK-5CT towers and TK-5C bookshelf speakers from RBH Sound."

These speakers are used in both the HTP 351 series and HTP 371 series from what I could tell, with the price difference being accounted for in the additional two speakers.

So they are not discontinued models but are similar designs that use "cheaper" materials?

Why else would they change the drivers from similar RBH speakers that get rave reviews?

I want to get these (replace the currently ordered pair of Ascend Sierra-1s) but I wonder about issues down the road.

Check out this thread from AVS, looks like there should be some user reviews
coming in a couple of days. Some of the folks there also contacted RBH and
found that the difference in cone/woofer material was for the older EMP EF30's and the the ones they are current selling use fiberglass like the RBh's
