I think SVS has made their niche in the subwoofer market by offering subs that can reach 20 Hz or below, with the tradeoff that bigger boxes/tubes are required to keep the subs more affordable than Velodyne for example. Velodyne makes small compact subs with expensive speakers and amps which push them into higher cost brackets for products that don’t offer the low extension of SVS. The SVS12-plus is the first small box SVS subwoofer, but you will notice the low frequency response drops to the -3dB point at about 28 Hz (SVS graph), which is the tradeoff made for fitting a 12” subwoofer in a small box. Not that 28 Hz is a bad subwoofer extension, but those with limited funds who like wall shaking bass of movie soundtracks will select a bigger subwoofer instead. You can’t beat the laws of physics, you can only make different design tradeoffs. The buyer has to decide what they value most.
