A great choice...I think Mike's got it right SPL1200R>SB12+>SPL1000R. Also, though I haven't heard it, the new Plus, I'm told is a significant step toward a "sealed-like" overdamped sound with the benefits and efficiency of the port. Having owned the previous 12.3 Plus (ported)versions, I'll agree with pearsall001...it was a tremendous HT experience, but suffered from GD and overhang when compared to some sealed and servo subs for music. The Ultra13 is a totally different story, I've compared it, as Mike has, to the Velo DD series and subjectively prefer it, slightly, for music, absolutely, for HT.
Dang Ron, you are making me really want an Ultra 13 very badly.:eek: Been thinking about selling my Pluses and getting one! Posts like this is the exact reason why. It just may happen sometime in 2009! :D:D Nice post Ron. ;);)

Cheers,

GD has been discussed on the boards, and the effects shown in most graphs are not very aiudible, and overall, won't be a major contributing factor to the sound. If something sounds wrong, it will most likely been from Distortion, or room interaction.

SheepStar
Hey Sheep, I'm using group delay to describe the softening(blurring) of the initial attack and overhang the decay of the individual bass note. If GD isn't audible, I doubt if it's distortion because we're talking about music notes generally above 30hz at volumes seldom over 95dbs.

When I first purchased a 20-39 Plus, I thought it was an outstanding sub for both music and HT. Over the years, I've heard better, but I'd never classify it as bad.

Okay the verdict is in.........I have had this week three, the two mentioned (SVS and Velodyne) and thrown into the mix was a Martin Logan Abyss. After much listening I have kept the ML due to its acuracy and what I call speed on all types of bass, The two tracks that clinched it are; 1) Van Halen Doin' Time off the Balance cd as well as 2) Reverend Horton Heat, The Devil's Chasing Me. The other factor was how well it blended with my Monitor Audio Silver RS8's..............How to post a pic? I tried the picture but the prompt said it is too large.
The rest of my set up is
Onkyo TX-NR905
Onkyo DV-SP405
Sony PS3
Direct TV HD DVR
Belkin Pure AV Power Conditioner
Blue Jeans cable for all
