SVS SB-2000 vs SB13-Ultra

Does anybody feel that with the release of SB-2000 SVS sort of shot themselves in the foot, especially considering the price difference between the two? Obviously there are differences between them with SB13 having a larger and more powerful driver and a more powerful and flexible amp, but looking at the manufacturer posted graphs, it seems that they would perform about the same, so if one does not need the adjustability of the SB13's amp and the piano black finish, is it worth it to dump the money on the SB13-Ultra? Now, let's say you want to buy two of them you're looking at $1300.00 for SB-2000's vs $3000.00 for SB13-Ultra's; that's a lot of cash.

Any thoughts on that one?

All you say was also true of the PB12-NSD. The SB2000 can't be tuned for 15Hz or 10Hz output and has still has less output than the Ultra (although it's getting pretty close to the plus)

the graphs posted show the frequency response, but not really the max output.

graphs also don't show how they actually sound like.

the Sledge 1000 amp also has some pretty nifty features.

i do agree that the SB2000's are nipping at the heels of the ultra. (if you can get multiples of the former)

but i would say that's good news for consumers.

the SB12NSD to SB2000 upgrade was massive, can you imagine the next new product from SVS?

that's what I'm saying, now that I've looked closed at the SB-2000, I'm wondering if I should be pulling the trigger on two SB-2000's or two SB13-Ultras, or if I should be waiting for the SB13's successor... but then I could be waiting forever and never buy anything, because new things will keep coming out

I believe Ed Mullen said it takes 2 SB-2000's to equal a SB13U in terms of output. The 2000 series subs are only a 2-2.5db gain over the NSD and the NSD is down 6-9db from the Ultra.

what i meant to say in my previous post was that if SVS had limited the "upgrade" of the 2000 series to kowtow to an existing product, they wouldn't get that far up.

anyway, if you look at SVS'es progression of upgrades, 1000 then 2000 ... you'll be waiting a VERY long time for an ultra upgrade.

buy now, play now :)

dual SB2000 vs single SB13Ultra would be the problem ... dual Sb2000 vs dual SB13Ultra (if it fits the budget) is a no brainer.

so... if I'm reading this right... you're telling my to go for two SB13's?

budget is not really a problem, the issue is the amount of investment vs the amount of return for a given investment, I don't want to throw money away

yes :D

the best way to combat buyer's remorse is to have had no better choice about the path you took.

dual SB2000's could take you 90+% there ... but if you're not counting pennies ... always get the best.

The old "Plus" series was always a great value, getting you most of the performance of the old Ultras for less money. Of course, "most" is not "all."

Also, as has already been mentioned, frequency response does not tell you maximum SPL. Two subwoofers with the same, or nearly the same, frequency response may be dramatically different when comparing maximum SPL, which is extremely important to the value of the subwoofer.

I might also add, once one gets "good enough" (whatever one's standards are for that), typically, getting much better is dramatically more expensive.

Could you elaborate a bit more on that point?
the SB12 to SB2000?

they finally let loose on the low end, something reserved only to the SB13U/SB13Plus is finally available on the "mid level" SB2000.

even way back with the SB12Plus, my main issue with it was the extension.

it's really not as simple as EQ'ing the sub for more low end, back then the extension was limited to preserve headroom.
so if SVS allows the extra extension this time, it means that they now feel there's enough headroom to sacrifice for low end extension.

headroom includes, amp power and woofer excursion.

as to the future models ... that is just me daydreaming.
