Hi guys,
After further research, SVS' sub receive a lot of good reviews. I was just wondering if anyone can give me more detail on their Cylinder Subs, if it is any good?

Thank you

The cylinder subs are almost exactly the same in performance as the typical design with differences being in:

-price due to less (less costly as well) materials being needed
-weight as they use a sono-tube rather than wood
-footprint the cylinder subs are taller rather than taking up much floorspace

Every SVS sub I have heard has been great and if you are in the market for a great sub I would strongly recommend them. Don't have any worries about getting a cylinder versus a more typical design both will work well and it just depends on your tastes as well as your what you can fit in your room.

If you need more help deciding on the sub to get I would recommend contacting SVS for their advice and sending them your room size. This will help you determine what output requirements you would need from a sub depending on your room size.

The cylinders are excellent subs. I've heard most of the models PCi, PC+ and Ultra and I've never been disappointed. What more detail do you need?

Sonically, i like them a lot. Surprisingly, my wife preferred the looks of the cylinder to the big boxes because they are easy to hide in a corner. Finishwise, they're not so hot, with visible staples and seams. The fabric itself is nice enough though.

Just to join in, I have a PC13-Ultra, and I'm quite happy with the sound of it. abboudc is right that the finish isn't great, but it's not bad. The fabric is pretty decent, and the grill on the top is good quality.

I choose mine mostly for the smaller footprint and lighter weight as compared to the Ultra box. I really like the look of the cylinder now that I have it.

My room is pretty small, so I dun want a very big sub. I will try contacting them once I get off work and at home.

Right now I am trying to compare the SVS, HSU, BIC H-100, and Mirage sub, anybody got any thoughts on this?

Thanks

Of those two listed I would put my vote towards SVS or HSU. I have yet to hear a better sub for the money than any offerings from those two companies.

As far as between those two companies I would say the biggest difference is asthetics vs price. If you are willing to spend some extra money for a great looking sub go SVS if you can live with having the asthetics of HSU (which are pretty meh in my opionion) go for it.

Thank you for the fast reply guys,

I guess now I am going for either SVS or HSU. I am leaning more toward HSU tho because of price difference, even though both offers pretty good size measurements for my room.

SVS is my first choice. I am leaning toward the PB12-plus, or (probably more likely) the PB12-plus/2, since my room is a large one!

Can't wait!!!

I love mine, I would have preferred the box, but didn't have room for it at the time. It sounds awesome, and now they offer the premium finish PB12 box subs for a nice discount.

You can't go wrong with either of them :)

Yeah, I really like the shape of the cylinder sub from SVS, i think it looks unique hehehhehee

Now I can't decide if I should spend more money on SVS 25 - 31 PCi, or just buy HSU's sub. I wonder if the SVS 25 - 31 PCi sub will have enough bass for movie and music. I watched 70% movie and 30% music.

Have anyone ever used the SVS 25 - 31 PCi sub (the smallest cylinder one)? and wad do you think of the performance?

for the HSU subwoofer, I am interested in VTF-1

anybody ever tried this one too? what is your thought about this, compared to SVS 25 - 31 PCi?

I would love to hear people's review about this

I haven't heard the VTF-1, but I highly doubt it will perform better than the 25-31PCi. The 25-31 has the most output of the PCi cylinders and I've been to one friend's place where it was flapping my pant leg despite the fact that his room is around 25x30.

Wow...

I am very indecisive when it comes to price, because I am sure most people who just graduated can relate to....we are cheap!

But still I would really like the PCi though, it just looks so good and if the performance match its look, it will just be awesome hehhehehe

One great thing about SVS is that you can call or e-mail them to inquire about which sub(s) would work best for your home. They'll give you a straightforward honest answer (I've heard the same about Hsu, too). You can also check out their website for B-stock items or ask them about those. They have some good deals on those from time to time.

i have sent my email to SVS for my sub, to AV123 for my speakers question. I am just waiting for their reply.

I keep on being surprised by how quick the internet based company's customer service, and how good the service actually is

Well, we learn new things everyday hehehe

I have the same size size SVS sub, but the plus. I have it tuned to 20 Hz in a huge room. If you have a huge room, the PCi may not be enough. I love the tube sub, my wife likes it, and everybody who has heard it in my HT/Bar is amazed with the sound and visceral experience:D. I love the small footprint, makes for easier placement and cheaper to ship.
As for the finish comment above, mine has no problems with visible staples and the seems aren't visible unless you are right up on it. It looks quite good.

I agree. I had many e-mail conversations with Ron and Tom at SVS prior to making my decision. One of them was with Ron on a saturday! Those guys must be there all the time!
