SVS PC-2000 Port Direction

Hello, I have recently joined the Dark Side. I purchased my first ported subwoofer: SVS PC-2000. It is a down-firing design with a rear port. The space in my small bedroom is limited, so the only place I could put this sub is the front right corner. Because of the deficit of space the sub is quite close to both walls. If I position it facing forward the port will hardly have any space in the rear.

My question is this: does it matter in which direction the port is pointed? Can I point it forward into the room? And how does it affect the sound (in theory and practice)?

Thanks in advance!

It doesn't matter where the port is pointed as long as it is not totally blocked by anything.

Thank you, shadyJ. So, what you are saying is port direction has no effect on sound quality nor volume, as long as it's unobstructed, correct?

Thats the cylinder model, the only way to point them is up! And then yes, as ShadyJ said, don't block them (by treating them as end tables)

Hi there. I too just received the Smaller PC 12Plus and I must say, not only is this thing big but it's intimidating too! What to do with all the controls and fine tuning?? I've read the manual but I think it's a bit over my head in verbiage. I can't seem to wrap my head around this Tech. Im not a newbie either. Lol. I guess I am to a sub / hot water heater like this! CAN SOMEONE HELP? I did the quick start up ran Audessy xt32 with bass management and when Xt 32 test the subs dbs with everything turned all the way down the I'mim in the 87db range!? Is it bc its front left corner loaded in my room? I have two other places for it front right corner but it's a bigger space or back left corner? Or do y'all think that's the problem?

Whoops! The PC2000 does have a side mounted port! My bad...

My only other comment is INCHES MATTER. Especially when corner loading, try adjusting the distance from wall(s) and see what improvements can be found!

Greetings from America!

Thats a whole lot of confusing sentence structure. But if I got it right, have you tried the volume control on the sub itself?

I'd give it at least a foot of clearance from the wall if that's the way it is facing, but other than that, it really doesn't matter on a standard bass reflex design such as the SVS PC-2000.

Thank you for all the replies! I turned the subwoofer so that the port faces forward into the room. I think it sounds just about perfect for the application. I was a little nervous switching from sealed to ported, but now I am sold! Will be buying ported subs for home theater in the future.
