SVS and PSA subwoofer auditions

Anybody have experience with SVS or PSA auditions? I really want to test out their audition for subwoofers. I understand why they are doing it and I think it's great. But the shipping charges for 50+ lb serious-woofers frightens me... a lot. I'm interested in two SVS subs and one massive PSA sub.

While SVS uses relatively clear terms, the language in PSA's FAQs is very... questionable. I understand why they wrote it. Some lawyer told them they have to... but basically it does sit well with my stomach...

Has anyone used SVS or PSA auditions and ended up returning the sub? Was it really hassle free? Did you get jacked with any fees?

I only have experience with PSA. It was completely hassle free. Great to deal with.

XS15SE. I think my room was just too big for a single sub. Big open floor plan and I just couldn't get it dialed in. In hindsight it was probably a mix of too large of a room and my inexperience with setting up a subwoofer at the time.

Throughout the whole audition they were super quick with answering questions and always willing to help. I would definitely purchase again when my dedicated room is finished in my basement.

Isn't the XS15se sealed? That may have been one of the issues. Sealed subwoofers are great, but I don't like how they blend in and extend the lower end. I like the character of a ported sub. Getting the sloppy air out of the port puts a smile on my face.

What subwoofer did you end up with?

I ended up with one that has similar output, just smaller. JL Audio e112. My buddy is a dealer and I got too good of a deal on a brand new one to pass up.

I am limited on size so going with a large ported sub was out if the question, until my basement is finished that is. If size wasn't a question I would have a PSA s3000i in expresso. I'm not gonna lie though, I have thought about selling the JL to fund the s3000i. The wife might jus be ok with it in a nice veneer.

Wow the specs on that JL are crazy!

I had both the E112 and the PSA XS15se in my home for demo, and they were virtually the same sub. the CEA 2010 figures on Data Bass confirm this. The E112 is a bit smaller, but I think the feet on the XS15se makes it look bigger.

That said, I kept the PSA since there was no sense in spending double the money for the JL sub.

I think Tom is gearing up to have the 3000i available soon in real wood veneer.

I can assure you both companies have the SAME policy of inspecting the returned unit prior to refund.

Definitely. After speaking with Tom earlier today, I can definitely tell it's a small company driven by passion. I'm not worried about it anymore :)

We're pretty easy going. I don't recall charging a single penny to anyone returning a product with the free shipping both ways promotion. Even when we have had shipping damage on the returned product...we just handle that on our end...full refund to the customer.

The S3000i has been available in wood veneer for a few weeks. First order was American Cherry, we now have a batch of Black Ash about to ship.
