OK I placed the order today. This unit seemed like a good choice for me. Next week, a new toy to toy with.

Congrats, you will enjoy it for sure. What sub to you have now, or is this going to be your first sub?

I've been using an AR S108PS. It was not an expensive unit, MSRP was $250 and I bought it for $200. It has served the purpose but I felt it time to upgrade.

Oh, baby. Congrats! Always nice to get a new toy, and you're getting a cylinder sub.

Yup, a cylinder. With space considerations it was the best way to go. I'm looking forward to it. Just like a kid in a toy store. With this, my HT should be complete, at least for awhile.

Congrats Fox, the 20-39 PCi was my first foray into the "real subwoofer" world.

My only suggestions would be to make sure that after you hook it up, level match it with an SPL meter before you start listening to any demo material. Then secure anything light that rattles or can fall off the wall/slide off tables, get some good movies w/plenty of LFE and enjoy the fireworks! :D -TD

Thank you all for the comments/thoughts. Finally, how important does anyone feel an SPL meter really is? I hadn't planned on getting one just to save some green. Or, is it really necessary? I want to do what is right while still trying to keep a few more dollars in the wallet if one can.

While some receivers have auto setup features that will attempt to perform level settings with their included microphone, more often than not most will run the level settings manually with an SPL meter after the fact as many of these can be less accurate.

If your receiver does not have a microphone and auto setup feature, I would absolutely recommend it. There's a substantial difference in the sound field for 5.1 soundtracks when each channel isn't properly balanced. While some folks do prefer to boost their subwoofer output in comparision to the other channels, an evenly balanced front soundstage (LCR) along with surrounds will allow for proper panning and sound effects reproduction. -TD
