SVS-01 5.1 vs Klipsch Icon V 5.1

I could get both 5.1 sets for about $1300 cdn.

I can't really audition either set, so I have to rely on others opinions. Both look like excellent choices. I will mostly use them for gaming, but movies and music are important too.

Anyone have any experience with these sets (or maybe both?)?

Thanks,
Johannes M

I absalutly love playing call of duty with my SVS setup. They sound just as good when I listen to music too.

Let me preface this with saying that I am a big Klipsch fan. Go with the SVS. The Icon V series are incredibly bright, the tweeter on this thing needs a sock stuffed in it to bring it down to something that is not fatiguing. If you can get past that, the bass on these is pretty good and the Icons V's would rock for home theater applications no problem. Hope this helps.

I read somewhere on another forum that after a few weeks breaking the klipsch in the tweeter softens up a bit, but I'm sure it's still brighter than the SVS soft dome. This is a tough call because the Klipsch set have the added advantage of me being able to buy them here in the city. I would have to order the SVS.

Oh, also I ment to write SVS SBS-01, but it seems you guys knew what I was talking about.

The SVS set isn't rated to be terribly efficient. Is a Denon AVR-789 (90 watt x 7) going to be enough to drive the SVS set at a reasonably high volume?

Get the SVS. You can try them for 30 days and if you're not happy with them , you can send them back. And I think the receiver will work fine with the SVS speakers. :)

Heh, is it even worth posting? My vote would go for SVS as well ;-) I think the answer is obvious!

I'm still waiting to see what Tom Andry thinks, because he has reviewed both sets, but I'm thinking more and more that I should get the SVS (and there seems to be lots of support for that opinion). One of the things that makes we wonder about the klipsch is that it's MSRP is twice as high, but audio pricing doesn't mean too much. I've been talking to SonicBoomAudio.com (Canadian SVS Distributor) about pricing. I'm hoping I'll be able to budget for the PB-12NSD.

Can you give the Klipsch's a listen?

If so go see if you like them.

If Best Buy wasn't incompetent, I could. They decided to rewire all their stuff, so they shredded the setup. Now they are waiting for head office to send someone to wire it up. I may be able to audition them in a week or so (The setup has been down for 3 weeks already). /rant

I'm thinking the SVS seem like a real attraction option, so at this point I will likely go that route. If and when I get the opportunity to hear the Klipsch, I will, but for now I can't

Any chance you could get anything from the Klipsch Reference Line? If you could get the RB52 theater minus the sub and get the SVS sub you'd be in good shape. I'd even recommend the RB10 theater over the SVS IMO. I wouldn't pee on the IKON series if they were on fire.

:D if they were on fire it would be too late... was considering the SVS as well.
