Helping a friend pick equipment. I am saying the SV MTS-01 5.1 system will mop the floor with a B&W CM system. Need you guys to give your opinions.

Hey Z,

Whats the pricing on the B&W's? I haven't heard the CM's but the MTS-01 are well worth the price IMO. Just a little laid back and just a little rolled off (compared to something like Ascend's 340's, which I like very much also.) on the high end makes them easy to listen to.

The only B&W's I've ever auditioned have been the 600 series so I'm not a lot of help...:) The problem is that I don't think many have had any time with the MTS-01's.

Anybody? I'm curious as to how the SVS's stack up...

My friend was misinformed on the price he could get the CM7 for. He went with a 683 set-up using a B&W ASW610 for around the same money as the MTS-01 floor-standing option . I honestly don't believe the B&W set-up can touch the SV, taking into consideration the PB13-Ultra. Not to mention the ScanSpeak and Peerless drivers. Oh well, it wasn't my money.;)

Not really close at all. Ive owned the 6 series and while not a bad speaker the SVS is definitely better. The 610 sub will play some high spl through mid band it doesnt dig that low.

My friend just got his Denon 3310 and B&W 683's. The set-up's sound is flawless. The sub, center, and surrounds are on order. From what I can tell, B&W is in the entry level game big-time with the latest 600 series. With the speakers playing full-range, there is not even the slightest sign of low-end bottoming with whatever you throw at them. Very impressive. I expect a tighter, cleaner sound when the sub is added employing a 60Hz x-over. The tweeter is classic B&W sweetness. The mid-range is classic chest-cracking B&W. Very nice. The square cabinets are not appealing, but the black vinyl finish is not as bad as I expected. Grills are junk. Just think 703's in cheap packaging.

I hate the receiver menu, and manual. Flat-out prefer Yamaha. Not even a second thought here.
