Surround speakers from different mfg's

In case you haven't read my other posts here, I am looking for new speakers. I was told from 2 source that if you have speakers from one mfg, say Mission, then you should get the surround speakers from the same mfg. How realistic is this statement? If I have my 2 mains from Mission what is wrong with getting my surrounds from Athena and a Polk subwoofer?

And even if I stay with the same mfg, they have different model levels. Suppose we have Boston Acoustics with an arbitrary name of A-1 for mains, A-2 for surrounds, and A-3 for sub. Then they come out with a new line...B1, B2, etc. How different is it from getting an A1 with a B2 as opposed to getting mains from one mfg and the surrounds from someone else?

Do I make sense?

Thanks!

Eddie

Using all the same models will assure you are timbre matched which is important if you listen to SACD or DVD-A. For movies I find that is is not that important and you can get away with using something else. My surrounds are different then my LCRs and my system sounds awesome.

If you look at my signature, you will see that all of my speakers are mismatched. What is important is having all speakers calibrated. I personally don't notice any differences in the sound whether playing dvd-a's or sacd's or movies with the different gear.

I didn't know anything about timbre matching until after I got my center channel, and I wasn't about to get rid of it just because it didn't match my then 12yr old main speakers.

Whats important to me is that everything sounds nice & clear & dialog is articulate. My system accomplishs that goal.

Now if I ever get new main speakers I will get the matching center channel to go with them. But right now my system sounds just great as it is.
