I have the following speakers in my home 6heater

Receiver: Yamaha RXV-667
Center: Paradigm CC-370 V2
L/R : Paradigm Monitor 7 V3
Subwoofer: Paradigm PS-1000

My subwoofer does not work properly and I will buy an SVS PB-2000

The HT is in the following room:

Width: 12'
Length: 20'
Height: 7'
Seating distance: 8'

I have the following questions for adding surrounds (5.1 or 7.1 configuration) - I did research in the forum and web site but I want further advices:

  • Are in-ceiling speakers for side and back surrounds a good alternative for on-wall speakers? Reason: 3 children that will play in the basement :)
    • Looked at the following In-ceiling speakers: Paradigm CI Home H65-R, Paradigm CI Home H55-R or Paradigm CI Pro 65-R. Any other possible options?
    • The ceiling will be a suspended ceiling (vinyl tiles made by Ceilume), Roxul Safe and Sound will also be used.
  • If I use on wall speakers, monopole or bipole speakers will be better? I have a feeling that using monople speakers will be OK since I only have 1 row will 3 seats.
  • For the surround speakers can I use other company speakers like the SVS Prime satellites? Otherwise, I think I will use Paradigm Atom Monitors;
  • If I use bipole speakers, what is the opinion on the Paradigm Monitor Surround 1 or Monitor Surround monitor 3

I included a plan of the home theater room.

Thank you for your help.

Frederic

Anyone can help with this? Did research on the NET and met vendors in shops but now I am more mixed up than anything else with my options.

In-ceiling speakers can work as surrounds, but they won't work as well as properly placed conventional speakers. I am not sure how you are going to make ceiling speakers in a drop ceiling work though. If you go on-wall speakers, use monopoles if you can, and you can use speakers from other manufacturers without too much of a problem. I would think SVS and Paradigm would work fine- as long as you don't mix the front stage speakers. Keep the front stage speakers the same.

I have no intention to modify the front Stage speakers. I will keep the Paradigm speakers at the front stage. I looked at the cost vs quality on the web and it seems that the SVS Prime satellite for the surround speakers are better than the Paradigms. Of course, I will need to listen to them to for me the surrounds are less critical than the front stage.

I have another choice for the surrounds : Monitor Audio Bronze FX on the side and Bronze 1 o 2 at the back for a 7.1 configuration. Would that be a good choice too with the Paradigms at the front stage?

Thank you
