Surround speaker selection

I would like to add two rear surround channels to my 3.1 system to achieve a 5.1 system. My front and center channel speakers are Paradigm Cinema 100s, and if I understand correctly, it is ideal to match your surrounds to the fronts (brand/series). However, I don't believe Paradigm makes in-wall surrounds. Also, I would like to mount the in-wall speakers in the ceiling whereas the front speakers are wall mounted (around my flat panel TV). Is this setup ok, or is it ideal to have the surrounds on the wall also? Thanks in advance for the advice.

Well to answer your first question, yes Paradigm does make many in-wall/ceiling speakers. Just visit their website to see the full line up of those products. Now as for matching the surrounds to your current LCR speakers that is not of most critical necessity unless you listen to a lot of multi-channel music--the likes of SACD and DVD-A. For the sake of mostly home-theater use, timbre matching on the surround channels with your mains will be utterly indistinguishable from the front channels. So, you can look to other brand of in-wall/surround speakers as well if you must....

As for the set-up being in the ceiling as opposed to in-wall, everyones needs and ideal are different depending on application and usage. Realistically, yes it would be great to have the surrounds at some level close to the ear but then again if your room doesn't allow it, thats not the end of the world....I know there are some forum members here that have their surrounds ceiling-mounted with satisfactory results....

Take some time...do the research and you will find an end that will fit your room and needs best...Hope this helps and feel free to ask away on anything else....

I realize Paradigm makes in-wall speakers, but I don't believe they make in-wall surrounds. Is there a series of Paradigm in-wall speaker that I can use as a surround speaker?

It is possible to mount the speakers on the wall slightly above ear level, but I would rather mount them in the ceiling for aesthetic purposes.
