Hey guys I’m just getting into speakers and stuff and was looking to get a surround sound system for my tv I would be starting from scratch. I need speakers a recover and I believe a Blu-ray player. I don’t know what setup would be the best but I think I’m looking at a 7.1. My budget is around $1,500 is it possible to get something like this at this price? Should I buy it through bestbuy ect or are there better companies?
I think you can get a reasonably good sound system for 1.5k. First I would check on what kind of AVR you can get for about $500. Look on
this page for refurbished AVRs that you can get for a good deal. For the speakers, I would allocate another $500, and there are lots of good choices in this range.
Look for bookshelf speakers. I would also look at what you can get from accessories4less here too, for
bookshelf speakers and a
center speaker front stage- that means the front left right and center speaker. I would look at speakers with 5" woofers and larger, and the brands I would look at from accessories4less are KEF, Boston Acoustics, and Canton. Outside of accessories4less, check out a RSL
CG3 and
CG23 front stage setup. For surround speakers, you might just get a pair of
Dayton B452-Air speakers if you have a small room, since they can easily be wall-mounted. If you have a larger room, get a pair of
Polk T15 speaker for surrounds, they are a lot more powerful and also easily wall mounted and very inexpensive. The
Monoprice MP-65RTs also make for a fine surround speaker on a budget.
For a subwoofer, I would be looking at a
Hsu VTF-2 if possible. If that is too large, look at a
Hsu VTF-1,
SVS PB1000, or
Monoprice Monolith 10" THX Select.
Get your speaker cable from Monoprice or
Blue jeans. If you need a speaker mount for the surround speakers, get the
Videosecu side-clamping mount, it is easily the best for the price. All of the speakers that I recommended to you as surrounds do have keyhole mounts in the back though.
