Surround sound speaker placement.

I want to install a 5.1 surround sound system in my living/great room but I am not sure about where to place the rear surround sound speakers. I do not have much room behind the couch that I use for my main listing position. Attached are some pictures of my living room that I want to setup the home theater system and I marked the pictures with a red spot that I believe to be the best place to mount surrounds sound speakers. Let me know if these are good spots to mount surround sound speakers.

Thanks

Roger

The best thing you could do to improve the overall experience is pull the seating forward. That will let you do rear wall mounting for a more realistic experience.

It will also get you out of the wall boundary zone where bass builds up terribly and tends to bloat things and mask dialog.

What kind of surround sound speakers do you have? If they are bi-pole or dipole speakers, you may be good to place them right about at seating position center. Also about 1-3 feet above seated ear level.

For direct-fire speakers, I would suggest you place them slightly behind seating position center (2-3 feet above seated ear level). Also point them diagonally forward and across the seating position. I think you will be happy with the sound.

with the seating right up against the wall, not very good for surround. but, i used to have the same situation . i had mine just a little forward of your dots. aimed just a tad above your head. these were direct radiating speakers.
they sounded good for what i had.

I don't have any surround sound speakers yet but I was considering the Klipsch RS-52 or RS-42 speakers and mounting were the red dots are in the pictures. Do you think that will be a good location for mounting the speakers? As for moving the seating position forward I could only move it a few inches do to the size and setup of the room.

Thanks

I have the RS-42s and that is exactly how my system is setup. Those speakers create a nice "null zone" where sound radiates outward and downward. They are very flexible in terms of allowing you to place them in many configurations though to the side and about 2 feet above seated ear level seems to work best for me.
