Surround sound from laptop

Hey uys, I have bought an HDMI cord whichd oes work and puts the sound and picture onto my television from my laptop, but I have a surrouns sound system i want the sound to come from. any ideas on how to get that to work?


My model on the surround sound is HTS3555/37. it's a philips. and so is my television

I would think you would need to run the HDMI to the receiver than a 2nd HDMI from the receiver to the TV.

That receiver doesnt have an HDMI input. If your tv has an audio output, hook that up to the receiver. Could also use a mini-mini cable from laptop headphone out to tv audio in.

I would get a new receiver with HDMI inputs.:D

This might provide stereo, which could be jazzed up somewhat with DPL or the like, but it's not "multi-channel" in the traditional HT sense.

For that he most likely needs a sound card with a digital output directly to the receiver.

He could use an external sound card to get surround sound. Or 3 y-cables and the analog inputs.

Depends on the laptop. My macbook has optical out. All you need is a mini plug to toslink adapter and you've got it.
