Surround Sound Advice

Hi,

I'm new at this and pretty overwhelmed by all the options available. Basically I want to set up a 5.1 speaker system for my reasonably sized living room which will need to provide the audio for an Xbox, Apple Tv (for music and movies) and Sky HD (all using HDMI). I guess I therefore need a system that includes an A/V receiver as well. The setup of the room also means it would probably better if my speakers at the back were tower speakers.

I have a budget of around £350 (US$570) which looking at some of this equipment isn't much. Does anyone have any recommendations for a setup or package that would meet this criteria? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

At that price range you are looking at a home theatre in a box or a soundbar. Go to bestbuy or walmat websites and take a look. Try to get a HTIB that comes with a receiver and not a Blu-ray player. If it has a receiver then at least you can change out the lower quality speakers for something better later. You do have options... you need to research a little and with the advice I gave you, you should be headed in the right direction. The ideal situation would be to buy all seperates (speakers and receiver), but you would need to spend around $1000. Hope that helps man and good luck.

It will take about $1000 - A cheap HTIB will sound cheap.
A Onkyo HTIB system, may get you started for now - they
sound fairly decent.
