I have a relatively odd shaped living room. (i've included a quick paint drawing of my current set up) The room itself is 15' wide by 13' from the wall to the stairs. I currently have a yamaha v465, 2 polk tsi300's and a polk cs10. I'm thinking about attempting to add 2 surround channel speakers but I am just wondering if it is even going to be worth it. Most setups i see have the speakers a few feet behind the listener which is not going to be an option with my living room.
I have tried to set up my living room in every way imaginable but with the furniture that I currently have this is as good as its going to get. The front speakers are not quite as far apart as they probably should be however they are as far apart as i can get them without having them in the way of the stairs on the right and in the middle of my dining room on the left. That opening on the left is an archway into the dining room.
The majority of my time is spent on the couch because the angle to the tv from the chair on the right is not ideal so the couch is my main listening/viewing area. The distance from the tv to the seats on the couch is from 8 to 9 feet depending on which side of the couch you are sitting on.
I am looking at polk tsi200's for the surrounds. I was thinking I would probably build a shelf or a small speaker stand and place one speaker in the bottom left corner and one speaker in the bottom right corner. basically one speaker on either side of the couch.
So here's where the questions come in. Am I going to be able to get even a half decent sound out of this or is it not even worth attempting? Are the tsi200's too much speaker for a surround sound speaker?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
