I
I thought your D-RANGEMENT was always at max!

:p:p:p

Okay, okay... I'll stop, lol. How you been peuga? Looks like you're getting it sorted out.
I've been great, the towers at my grandpa's were B&Ws dm604s, and the sub a JBL hot ps 300 sub, my birthday is next Saturday, so i asked him to lend me the B&Ws and the sub, so i could build a temporary better suited theater, so I'm really looking forward to that. As for the living room, it's stayed mostly the same, i decided to ditch the center channel, in favor of a lower tv position, and i don't regret it, now, i had a JBL bookshelf lying around, so i made it one of the surrounds, it might sound weird, but just having one of the sutrounds sounding better made it more pleasent, i also realized how bad those Sonys were. And for everything else, GREAT!!
Got my poop togheter at academics after getting side tracked during the pandemic, so I've been feeling really light recently

As they say, a theater is never complete, well, in my case it was just the certain channel, but for real, whoever thought having voices coming from bellow or above the tv was acceptable (unless you have some hearing issues)

Also, about the 6.1 formats, i tried a 6.1 movie, it had a DTS ES track, as expected plex has to transcode it to 5.1 ac-3, so setting the SB deconding to auto doesn't engage automatically, that said, forcing it to matrix actually sounded pretty good, instead of just making everything kinda blurry behind me (how it felt like on regular dd and dts movies) it was awesome to hear planes flying to the sides and then directly from the back to the front stage

Nice! Yeah, if converted to DD 5.1, it will not work in Auto and needs to be Matrixed. Ok, so no Center Channel. Now I get why the boxes look the way they did in the pic. Enjoy!

I never got to asking, but what's the optimal distance for surrounds to be in?

More about position rather than distance, altho if at a great distance that will be asking more of your amp than it would by bringing them closer....there are suggested speaker placement guides like this https://www.dolby.com/about/support/guide/surround-sound-speaker-setup/
Im asking, because i can nail their position just fine, but having them to close makes them way to localizable, i have mine set to my sides and high, around 2.4 meter i believe, and while using a different speaker made them less localizable, since, that speaker has just a overall bigger emission area it's still right besides me up there, it doesn't feel much like a sphere or an area, but a speaker, throwing special effects at me, i noticed that having them a bit more distant mitigates tis effect

Also, i doubt making putting the a bit farther I'll warrant a difference in levels of over 3.0 db

You can always lower the level of the surrounds to suit. Different speakers may have had different sensitivity ratings or did you recalibrate when changing speakers?

i recalibrated it so many times, my dad already fears when i ask him for help, he's like, "not the holding the phone up again", admitedlly, it is still calibrating with an iphone, and like, it's not about them being louder than the front stage, and more like they are to distracting when so focused in one place, thus why being farther, and dispersing more into the space kinda helps imo

If they're that noticeable I'd think lowering the level slightly would make it less noticeable....
