Suggestions on new speakers

I decided to sell the cerwin vegas to my brother so now I am in the market for new speakers. I am willing to spend no more than $1500.

For the time being they will be powered by a Marantz SR5002 receiver but willing to buy proper amp to power whatever I buy. It is going to be about 50/50 movies/music. Right now I just want to buy a 2 ch setup. They will be in a prettly large room 35W x 40L x 12H. I mostly listen to rock music and the movies are usually action movies so low frequency is my main concern right now. I want a lot of bass, but I want it to be tight bass. I also frequently host large get togethers so I want them to be able to safely be powered very loudly.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and the size of the speakers isn't really a concern, I honestly would prefer a larger speaker due to the size of the room.

Thanks a lot guys,

Tyler

Put the Axiom M80 on your list of fronts to audition. They are a clean neutral speaker and will play very very loud!

Axiom has a pair bolted to the rafters of its production facility (probably in excess of 80K cu.ft.!!) and I was quite impressed at how they did there at background listening levels.

They are rated at 400w max, but have been tested up to 700w for extended periods (2 hours) and have withstood 1200w max input for short periods without frying the drivers.

For lots of clean bass, you will need at least two, and probably more, powerful subs.

I have actually been looking at those speakers... what kind of subs would you recommend?

Thanks a lot
